That price is outrageous. The pipe by itself costs around $150 or so. Don't take it to the dealer, they're just going to rob you. An independant certified Lexus mech. can do it for a lot less or if you're good with your hands and have access to a garage of course with the right tools you can do it yourself....check out my post on the 1st page of this thread...

I just got my EGR pipe fixed at Lexus Of Westminister for a total of $625..........They told me that they need to remove the transmission in order to get to the pipe.......My 93 LS has 165000 miles and this is the second time that EGR pipe fail.....the first time was at 85000 miles.........

Default big question about egr and HP

dealer told me that i wsa loosing hella hp because My egr pipr was cracked. And when they told me the price i was like uh NO
not today. Question is did you fellas feel a return of power when you fixed it. And if I go to an aftermarket exhaust will still need it.

thanks

Very slightly but it could be just my imagination, The truth is you save a lot more on gas when the EGR pipe is replaced. If you feel that you're getting a loss in power I would suggest a full tune up. The EGR returns the unused gases to engine for better economy.

I wouldn't think you would loose any HP, the EGR system is for emissions reasons only. Its purpose is to dump exhaust back into the air intake to create lower combustion temperatures and in return lower NOX in the exhaust. This usually happens when you take your foot off the gas and coast at higher speeds and NEVER at WOT.

Default EGR Pipe

My cost to have replaced was $480, $1000 is ridicuous, couldn't fix it myself, the pipe is only about a foot long, I also didn't notice any difference in hp, but definitely got rid of the crackling sound.

I got the EGR changed last friday. Got the bill today and the dealer charged me 200Euros for labor. It is the first time I changed the EGR (410000km). Car runs a lot smoother and is taking less fuel. Thank you for the instructions seems they helped my mechanic.
