Default is this LS400 overpriced???

Hello everyone! Ive been on the search for a clean LS for over a year now I sold my primary car yesterday now I'm needing a new car asap. Ive been wanting a clean black on black one with low mileage I found one that's near me. There's a few things that are raising some red flags, one it doesn't look like it's had the 90k service done, and according to the carfax it's had some body damage. I tried negotiating with the dealer selling but they are only willing to go down $500 from their $8500 price tag which I think it's way too expensive for this vehicle but I do want it bad! What do you guys think is a fair price for this car??

I recently purchased a super clean and incredibly well maintained '96 LS w/ 77K miles for $8K. The dealer was asking $10K and I negotiated for a better price.

I don't think $8.5K is ridiculous for a clean and well maintained LS.

I think it's way too much even if the 90K service was done. If the Carfax says there was body damage it could mean a little or alot but either way it's not good. You can get a good 98-2000 for that price.
You can check for the service history (as long as it was done at the dealer) with the VIN number using this; http://drivers.lexus.com/lexusdrivers/home I looked and it only shows up to 2003 and 49K miles. I think it's cursed, it started having battery problems before 10K miles. Take your time and find a better one.

Run,, dont walk,, but run away from this one. s WAAYYYYYY overpriced for the miles and age. You can find a 2000 LS for something in that price range.

I would say 5-6k tops for that one. depending on what damaged it has suffered. I am sure you will find one. And hello to a fellow kansan.

A contrarian view

The 90K mile service is a timing belt, an oil change and a tire rotation. I'd recommend you inspect the timing belt well and make a judgement about its condition. My LS has 136K miles and no timing belt replacement at 90K.

I'd also recommend inspecting the body panels to learn what has been replaced. The aoriginal panels will have the VIN etched on them and replaced panels will not. A well done repair wouldn't disqualify a car from my consideration.

Lastly, I don't think 8K is going to buy a well cared for 98-00 LS for a couple more years.

Happy shopping.

It's funny but used car prices are different depending on what area of the country you live in. I bought my 350, drove to Florida on vacation and saw numerous models optioned exactly like mine, most with more mileage than mine and they were all $3-5K more than I paid for mine. For my area, that car is overpriced. I wouldn't pay a dime over $6500, I don't care what that dealer says.

For most of us, wayy too much for a '96. As PD mentioned, that is 98-00 $. Maybe a super clean '97 Coach but even then it is pushing it.
