I can believe it, mine went from a small ~1/4" crack to an 18" crack overnight in the california summer. Temperature differentials are fun.

I went with the best aftermarket glass I could get and OEM trim to ensure no leaks or fitment issues.
If you get the cheapest possible glass you may have fitment issues, but your installer should be able to guide you as to how each brand/series fits.

Speaking of trim, the clear protective layer on mine peeled up sometime back. Local drives are slugging along at 5-35 MPH on my commutes, I didn't think much of that other than cosmetic issues. On our winter break in Cen Cal, there is no traffic so moving along at 65+ that flappy thin layer would oscillate with the airflow causing it to whistle. Super annoying. Pulled it off the other day and the car is quiet again. Bottom line, get the OEM trim, it is made better.

Our insurance company paid for an OEM to replace the windshield on my 2000 LS400. Total cost for the windshield, trim, and labor was almost $1800!

The OEM windshields seem very durable, I have one with some big rock chips that should have cracked, but didn't.

Mine just cracked after a rock chip that was there from when I bought the car a year ago finally failed and spread a crack through the windshield. I have no clue how long the chip was there before I bought the car.

Bumping this thread to get some advice. I see many complaints about the common aftermarket company giving glass that seems thinner and seals that don't quite fit properly. Looking for some advice here, I've never had to replace a windshield before. Any tips or advice here in 2019?

Default PPG Solex glass is my favorite

I once used Pilkington glass in another vehicle and hated it. Been using PPG Solex glass ever since in all my vehicles and have been very happy with it.
