Kind of like the old days when they'd put a penny under the blown fuse. I often wondered how many houses burned down afterwards?
I wonder why the fusible link melted in the first place?

 

I'm sure there were alot of fires cuz of that little penny. Just what might happen with this wire soldered in there instead of the required fusible link. If it's there, it's there for a reason. (too much heat)
I don't understand people, you're doing all this work to put a piece of wire in there, why not just put a fusible link back in and have it done correctly, SAFE?

 

I agree with deanshark, the wire in Post # 60 will do nothing at all beyond removing the fabric washer but I give CyberLS high marks for his installation skills. The real question is - where can you get a replacement fusible link with the correct heat rating?

(This thread was helpful to me as it led me to the correct fuse which was blown for the lighter socket above the shift lever; I did remove the washer for the non-functioning socket in the arm rest but the only thing I will ever plug into that will be a charger for my phone, pretty sure that will draw little current and create no significant heat - will test that.)


EDIT - apparently you can buy the assembly with the fabric washer and new fusible link for a few bucks on ebay, That is the way to go instead of the soldered wire or removing the washer.
