Unhappy another key $$$$

i just got my '96 and it only came with 1 key
i just called my local lexus dealer & another key is:
key $145
fob $225
programming $150

$520 for a key seems like an awful lot

is there a cheaper source (i realize they are laser cut)?

can i do the programming myself?

mark

found the ad for keyless remotes on the site, a much cheaper solution!

on ebay i see a switchblade type key for a 96 LS400 for $75
looks i just get the Lexus dealer to laser cut the key & do the programming?

i have a good lexus mechanic - what is there to the programming?

anyone tried one of these?

does the 96 key have any sort of chip in it?
it is molded plastic and doesn't contain a battery
it could contain an antenna, if that is how the ls400 security works
i see blanks on ebay for USD$25
if i get 1 of these and have it cut i can follow the 'Create a Spare Key' procedure & have another master key that will lock/unlock the doors & truck manually & start the car?
i'll need another fob to do the functions remotely?

check out http://www.sewellpartsonline.com/

they have keys for $68 bucks and fobs for $89......way cheaper than what your dealer is asking...and these are all OEM Genuine Lexus parts......programming shouldnt be that hard, you can probably do it yourself...do a search on programming, i'm sure someone's got it

Link? I'd buy 3 right now at that price. Best I've found on Ebay is~$60 per key.
