does anyone know the correct
toyota oil filter numbers for the LS?
I've been using 90915-20004
but the last dealership I went to
said it's been replaced with
90915-YZZB5 ?

 

Over here they used 90915-20004 (Nov/01). How much is your filter? Around 10$ here in germany.
I will try the # at my dealer.

 

I'm still using 90915-20004. Maybe the 90915-YZZB5 is the domestic-made filter for their V8 engines.

The 90915-20004 is made in Japan by Denso, and is better than any of the domestic-made filters (according to people who have cut both open).

 

90915-YZZB5 is the replacement filter for 90915-20004. Once your dealer runs out of 90915-20004, they will stock 90915-YZZB5 instead. 90915-YZZB5 is made in USA with black o-ring instead of red o-ring. Other than that, the two filters look exactly the same. 90915-YZZB5 goes at a bargain price of $4.95 here in So. Cal.

 

The Mobile 1 filter is rated excellent. You might want to try one. Autozone and KMart carry them. Most Lex's take the M1-102.

This filter is highly rated.

 

Here's what I got from one of my Toyota contacts:

"The 90915-20004 is listed in the Toyota or Lexus parts book. It is the exact number for the Denso filter. The 90915-YZZB5 is US made, and that is not the one you want..and they may give you this one if the 90915-20004 filter is unavailable...so make sure the box says 90915-20004 if you decide to buy one."

hyperopt - Which dealer in SoCal sells the US-made one for $4.95? That's cheap compared to the ripoff $13.99 that my local Lexus dealer charges for the 90915-20004.

I did buy 3 with 1 in the LS already.

Hyperopt is right the 90915-20004 sells fpr $14-16,
and the 90915-YZZB5 sells for $6 in MASS.

If Toyota considers the 90915-YZZB5 a replacement filter,then I
think it is good enough for the Lex. , the dealer doesn't stock the
Denso anymore, it doesn't even come up on the computer.

I've tried the BOSCH High Perf. filter, I don't know the rating of
it but I tend to like BOSCH products.

I've heard peolpe say that the Synthetic Filters are meant to be
used with syntec oils ? I run Castrol or Mobil reg. because of the
gaskets concerns.

FYI - I Picked up Chevron Fuel Injectors cleaner for $9.99 for 4/case at Costco/Priceclub. I think that a real bargain.

 

Longo Lexus in So. Cal. wants $11 for 90915-YZZB5, and I found the same filter at Cabe Toyota in Long Beach, Ca for $4.95. I don't have problem with where the filter is made as long as the filter is sold by Lexus and carried Toyota brand as they must meet all specifications set forth by Toyota.

 

You can get the 90915-20004 filter at some Toyota dealers for a little over $7. The list on this filter is actually about $11. My local Lexus dealer charges over list for almost every part they sell.

They all meet Toyota specs...the Denso just has higher quality construction and filtering media. I'd only get the Denso if the price difference between the two isn't large though. Or, if you're paying a set price for a Toyota/Lexus dealer to do your oil change, might as well request the better, more expensive filter.
