I just received oil filter that I ordered from www.irontoad.com In FAQ for RX300 it says there is Japanese and US production for oil filters. Well the filter I got is part number 90915-YZZD1 and it is Thailand production. Should I be concerned? I have one Japanese production filter and it looks different. Thanks.

The filter I purchased at a local Toyota dealer recently was a ....YZZB9 and I was told to only use this filter.

Your pic of the ....YZZD1 looks more like a FRAM type filter than the Japanese production type.

Check out this link where this guy compared a FRAM filter to an original YAMAHA filter and found the FRAM was 40% more restrictive...

Summary: better safe than sorry, my thoughts are you purchased a Japanese production vehicle for a reason... Stick to Japanese production parts..

that applies only to motorcycle filters, not car ones. The Thai Toyota one is made by Toyoda Boshoku, same company that does the Japanese filters, and the American ones, although a lot of the US filter parts are Purolator. If you're that scared of a Thai filter, i would go with a aftermarket. If you have a truck parts store in your area, i would order a Fleetguard LF3335, it cross-references to the Fram PH3614 for the V6/V8 Toyota motors. I would do this at your own risk.

 

Well I called irontoad.com today. Apparently, when they order B9 filters factory sends D1 for now. They saying it are the same filters and I should not have any problems. Will see.

 

I have 2 YZZB9s that I purchased at a local Lexus dealer for about $10 a few months ago anticipating oil changes in the future. Like Fern, I'll stick with the Japanese models, there appears to be a difference in the design of the filter from the pictures on this thread, why, if Lexus specs the filters? Is there a differnece in price? Does anyone have access to the specs on the two filters such as flow rate, bypass coefficients under loadings, filter efficiencies?

 

There is price difference. Thi filter (D1) is $4.42 and Japanese was around $5.50. I always bought all my parts at irontoad.com I still have two B9 filters. My Oil change is coming up in 500 Miles. I'll bring both filters to my mechanic. I'll see what to do then.

 

My local Toyota dealer had some 20004s and 20003s in stock, i bought all the 20004s for my LS. Ask a Toyota dealer, they may have some NOS(New Old Stock) filters.

 

Man, you guys have me all screwed up! I have over a 100k miles on my 2001 Rx. I have been using Toyota filter# 08922-02011 since new. That is the filter my parts man always sells me. Whats up with that?

 

I've been caught up in the alphabet soup that is Lexus oil filters myself here lately. Seems that Lexus has quit making the YZZB9 filters and their standard replacement is either the YZZD1 or the 02011(which I believe I read was made by Purloator). I've called the local Lexus and Toyota dealerships and none of them have it. They all reference me to the 02011. It's a shame - the YZZB9 filters looked to be of a much higher quality than the US-made 02011 filters.

I prefer the Mobil 1 oil filters over the toyota ones. I've done some reading on this subject and Mobil 1 filters always seem to come out on top for filtration and flow. Ever feel the weight of one of these suckers? They are heavy!
