Quote: I hate the OEM wheels installed on all of the 1st gen LS400s. All of them are ugly IMO (which means nothing to all of you lol)

These cars are pretty large and a 15 or 16" wheel just looks out of place.
they're really not that large, and in profile it's actually sort of a low and flat car so i think 16" works with the proportions pretty well

the current LS (and cars in general) is much taller so the bigger wheels work better

17" and at the most 18" could work if the car sat a bit lower

So I got the BCRacing coilovers on about 2 months with just under 1000 miles on the car. I love being able to adjust the height. My buddy who did most of the heavy work said he was really impressed as we unboxed. Out of the box they were too stiff and i almost wanted to cry, i thought i wasn't going to be able to adjust them soft enough. I'm sure the younger crowed wouldn't mind the ride at all. I driving on the absolute softest setting. But for me its kinda killed what I loved most about the car. It went from floating on heavy cream to driving on cold margin. I'm trying to get back in touch with BC and see if there are any options for softening up the ride more. It handles great but just miss the way it used to eat every bump without coming into the cabin. If what i was feeling was the coilovers w/ 17" wheels id be okay. Around town is fine, but heavier bumps at speed 60+ make me feel like I'm going to bottom out the seat spring. 80+ and it feels so sturdy compared to the float the old suspension had.

Didn't look quite right in person. Like wannabe boy racer.

Stuck with the 1/2 drop. Almost indiscernible compared to factory if you're not paying attention.

They were installed for comfort. 60 profile sidewall makes a big difference in how the car rides. When I switch to my 18'' summer 245/45 GS430 rims, there is quite a big difference in how the car rides.

I can understand why they fitted such small rims and such large sidewalls. It was a comfort\ride choice rather than a aesthetics one.

You need the Swift Spring upgrade (sport) in a lower spring rate (max 12K front, 8K rear) to get some of that cushy ride back. I plan to do the same with my FnF2's in the future.

I have the Swift spring upgrade. Hence the gold springs. Don’t know what spring rate would be better than the default 12/8k.

coilovers are not meant for comfort, but for adjustability and lowering. if you wanted the softness of the ride back, you need to back to conventional strut/spring suspension.

while you still have the coilovers, have you tried to adjust the damping to "full soft" (turn the top **** counter clockwise until it stops)?

careful yo... you'll upset the "my car is on 20s and scrapes going in and out of parking lots but rides just like stock because i didn't get cheap coilovers" group of people

Please let us know what BC has to say if anything Joe, and also interested in what you find out after adjusting the dampening to the softest position? I have a 90 LS400 too and noticed a firmer ride just going from the stock 15" to 18" I think for the better personally, I'm really wanting to go coil overs as well but don't want the ride to be like my Jeep! LOL

The "Sport" springs are what I was referring to, not the "Metric/Standard Coilover Springs".

I'm saying you should still be able to use the struts you have, you simply need the sport springs instead of the coilover springs as they will provide a more linear spring rate.

HOWEVER, it still won't be as floaty as stock. If you want stock-like feel, sell the coilovers and get a stock replacement strut/spring setup.

Just noticed something in the top pic above: You can't see any of the shock body in the hole, meaning you likely didn't leave enough of it in the bottom mount to be considered "safe". There should be a minimum of 1-1.5" of the shock bottom in the lower mount.

That sounds like the ticket, stock ride is on the floaty side anyways. Thanks for the info👍
