Hello everyone,
I was driving one day and all the sudden my engine started grumbling and slowed down like crazy, i had to give it lots of gas just to get from 0-10 and the exhaust smelled like fuel really bad, my first guess was bad spark plugs, so i replaced them and my battery. And it didnt fix the problem, it made the car start much smoother, but its still grumbling and really slow off the start and takes alot of gas to get her going. Would you guys say that it might be the spark plug wires...or what? What should my next move be?
yup check your coils..don't be confused by a clogged catalytic converter and a bad or dead ignition coil...
when you replaced your spark plugs, how was the condition of the wiring? and did you check your distributor caps and rotors?
i had the same problem with the car, i replaced the spark plugs, wires, caps and distributor and problem was still there. Cats were glowing red hot, so i figured its the cats, so i went ahead and replaced the cats and problem still there, no i spent $1000 all together and same problem, now my mechanic tells me that it needs a valve job, don't know who to believe at this point.
dang, the wires were not stripped and no exposed metal, but that doesnt rule out the chance that one could have opened up inside somewhere
the distributor and other problems would give me a bad problem with starting the car up wouldnt it? it starts beautifully right now....i will check the cats and if it doesnt look hot i will bring it in for the bad news i guess hehe
