How did lexus get such a big power difference from the gen 1 LS to the gen3 LS? I think the hp's are 250 & 300 respectivly. I believe they are on the same block (1uz) there both 4.0 liters, and the exhaust doesn't seem any freer flowing.
by third gen im asssuming hes reffering to the third bodystyle LS400 and not the UCF30/31 LS430s. so this is the 98-00 UCF21(gen 2.5) cars as compared to the early 89-94 UCF10/11(gen 1/1.5) cars.
now, the gen 1 cars had the same 4.0L 1uz block as the rest of the "400"s. but it made
250 hp @ 5600 rpm and260 ft-lbs. @ 4400 rpm. it also had a 4spd ect-i automatic trans.,
the Gen 2.5 cars had the same block BUT had Toyota's version of Variable Valve Timing - VVT-i.
this gave the gen 2.5 cars about 290 hp @ 6000 rpm and 300 ft-lbs of torque @ 4000 rpm. these cars had a new 5spd Automatic trans with ECT-i.
the gen 1 cars had a curb weight of 3759 lbs.
the gen 2.5 cars had a curb weight of ~3650 lbs give or take some.
I think that VVTi boost torque and hp up alot at lower engine RPM. Anyone have pic of stock dyno chart comparision between 1st version and 3rd version UZ.
Ok.... V V T I is this somthing that is electronicly controled as in ECU or some other computer system, or is it mechanical, as say the cams/valves/springs? Basically is this a tuning thing that could be done by upgrading some hardware, or is this an enginering thing that requires computer/electronic sytem intergration?
