LIFELESS (or intermitten) TACHOMETER
first, i've done the search on this topic and have read all related threads. from what i gather, most people have an issue with the whole dash and lighting system. my issue is not the lighting (which is fine) but the operation of the tachometer itself. the odometer still works.
second,
does it sounds as though my problem is a candidate for Jim Walker's fix (see link below)? is my problem the one that might be resolved by fixing a bad soldering (sp?) connection?

thanks,
this place is a wealth of knowledge!

Got exactly the same problem but . . . the opposite! Tach works well 99% of the time and speedo works intermittently.
Odometer counts 100% of the time. Instrument illumination, fuel, temp gauges are flawless 100% of the time.

Instrument Cluster Works Intermittenly?
Hello There,
When your Instrument Cluster works "intermittenly", I assume you mean that it works after some time of driving ie after the engine and cabin have warmed up. Since both your LS400 are from the 1990-1994 era, chances are very high that your Instrument Cluster electronics are failing. This failure exhibits itself in different forms - flickering lights, intermitten tachometer/speedometer/fuel gauge needles, etc.
I suggest that you take some time to read the abundance of literature on this known problem. You are not alone. https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sho...threadid=40025
If my assumption is wrong, I suggest you describe your "problem" in more details so that others may chip in suggestions.
Regards, LamSV
