Default lights PROBLEM AHHHHHHHHHH

Hey guys , i have a 92 sc300 and i just converted to the Auto couture kit as most of u know. I wired up my 97 fogs to piggy back off the parking lights(1st Click of the light stick switch) and it worked for about 2 weeks no problem Then i start noticing a burnt electric smell coming from my AC when it was on recirculate. This happened twice, both times when my lights were all on. I was like WTF, and both times i immediately turned the ac and lights off. The 1st time everything was ok, but after the 2nd time my fogs, parking lights and my sidemarkers dont work. The parking lights work in the rear work though. I checked all the wires going to the parking, fog and sidemarker lights with my multimeter and there is no power going to them.. Im afraid that the wires got super hot somewhere in the cabin and they started melting or something and thats why i could smell it when the ac was on recirculate and now the wires are all messed up and thtas why the lights dont work. Please if anyone has had this happen please post back.. Oh yah btw my headlights high beams and turn signals work fine.

that's easy.

unfortunately, sounds like you wired your fog lights to run off of teeeeeny wires that used to briefly run the cornering lamps and associated circuit. Any length of time with both of those fog lights and parking lights on will smoke/melt the shield on those wires. If you are going to run fogs, they need at least 16 - 14 gauge wire, run str8 to the efuse box or get remote fog lite switch [found at any parts store].....right now, those wires are like 24 gauge [lower gauge number = thicker cable and vice versa]. TTere is a tutorial on www.intellexual.net on the required relay and wiring...or hit the search

Looks like you have a new project....
moving to lighting

i did the same thing and ending up burning out a little area underneath by the fusebox in the cabin...there is a little ceramic "block" that actually smoked and burned out,so i took a piece of metal (like a staple) used it as a loop and stuck it in there to continue the circuit.-power came back on!

i'll see if i can post a pic to help you out!

Hey JDM,

I had the same problem too~! I wired the Fogs to my low-beam wire harness and they burned out along with that funky smell. My low and high beams work fine though. My fogs are not operable right now, maybe I'll rig them up to a switch like Legendary stated. Honestly, I thought I was the only one here who made this mistake and was afraid to speak out .

Could you avoid this whole dilemma by purchasing a headlight relay from a JDM Soarer? (might be $$$ who knows) I was told that everywhere but in the US you can turn on the fogs w/ parking lights and that the relay is to blame. Might be a plug-and-play solution or just another one of my crazy ideas.

¿?

ok...i don't have a pic yet but,the piece that burned out on my car due to the same wiring i did is located above the fuse block in the interior. the piece is a litle ceramic? piece that it is right in between a relay and a blue connector. i made a little loop with some heavy guage wiring(u-shaped)(or a staple)and stuck it in the burned area-to complete the circuit. give me a sec to get a good shot of this area that i am describing.
