Default 1995-96' taillight upgrade

Hi all,

I am going to convert my taillights to the newer 95'-96' style ones next week or so.

Could anyone tell me if I need anything else in addition to the sensors? According to my searches here, I found out that I would need two different sets of sensors (one to cure the hyper blinking problem and one to get rid of the taillight warning light on the dash) for the swap.

Anything else that I might've missed?

Also, are these sensors hard to replace? If I can simply plug/unplug them, I guess I'll just do the swap at home by myself rather than taking my car to a mechanic for help.

Thanks in advance!

Jon

I think you need the sensor for the 97 lights. For 95-96 you should not need anything else.

Thanks for the info.

In other words, I don't need anything (not even sensors to replace) for this conversion?

Well, depends on how you are going to do it....if no harnesses or adapters are involved, welcome to the new world of 194/168 parking lights. You will have to wire in 6 of those. Yes three pair for the rear parking lights. Then make a pair of brake lights for each side. I think BananaGS said that a resistor can be used to slow the hyper blinking

Baby M3, where did you get the 95-96 tail lights & for how much. I remember you mentioning something like $114 a piece brand new?! Wouldn't that be nice. Thanks & good luck w/ the conversion. BTW, you clearing the bottom half?

Legendary: Sorry for my ignorance. But I did not fully understand what you meant. Did you mean to say that without the sensors, I would have to wire in the lights? I thought the 95-96' models use the same harnesses/adaptors as the 92-94' models, no? For now, the only things I have are a pair of 96 taillights and a set of sensors to stop the hyper blinking problems. Does it mean that I still have to get the harnesses/adaptors from the dealer then? Arrrrgh... I didn't know it's going to be this costly to do this conversion. I thought it was simply plug and play for me...

SilverBolt: I actually bought the passenger taillight from a member on CL. As for the driver side, I searched around and found a junk yard on the East Coast 2 days ago (Borges Foreign) that happened to have a driver side taillight laying around. Their number is: (800)662-6150. Ask for Kevin. Sorry, I tried to look for that post that said $114 per side for those taillights but was unable to find it. Arrrgh..
As for clearing the bottom portion, I think I am just going to leave them stock because they're really a bit too expensive for me to take the risk. But the clear ones definitely look very nice though!

Baby, it cost me an additional 30.00 for the wires, harnesses, and bulbs for the conversion.

All can be found at your local Pep Boys or Auto zone

Thank you very much!

Do you know the part numbers for these items? If not, do you have any pix of them?

I just bought a one passenger taillight from a CL member and one driver side taillight from a junk yard from the east coast. I was under the impression that the wires/harnesses/bulbs should be already attached to the tailights, no?

Assuming they do not come with wires/harnesses/bulbs, I guess I am out of luck. I take it that my pre 95 wires/harnesses/bulbs won't work with the newer taillights.....
