Default Daytime Running Lights

After test driving the ES, I noticed an annoying feature I'd like to change. On the turn signal stalk you can select DRL OFF, off, parking lamps, lamps on or auto. In auto mode the DRLs are on. I personally find them annoying, but don't want to give up the automatic lamp function just to not have them. Is there any way to disable them? Can Lexus do it with a C-BEST setting? Can I pull a fuse when I get the car like I know you can on some GMs?

Other than that, I can't think of another feature I'd like to change...

Agree with you on that. I'd rather have DRL functionality controlled by another switch like the fog lights. Not a big deal to me, but it'd be nice. Appearance-wise, I like the look of the front of the car with the DRL on during the daytime.

As for C-BEST settings, the pages were scanned and posted on here half a year ago. Not sure how far back this board keeps the messages though.

I have to check that too! - Cause that was the first thing I asked the Dealer to change on my ES - and it wasn't said that they couldn't do it (which would be a flat lie) but they wouldn't do it because it breaks the warranty.

Why would it break the warranty? They don't have DRLs in the UK or Japan and those cars have warranties too.

Not sure -that's what the mechanics told me - I wasn't going to change them because I didn't want to jack my car up - so I had to roll with their answer!

its not that not having DRLs will void the warrantee, it's that modifying your car will, in some way that it wasn't intended to

I know on GMs its as simple as pulling out the DRL fuse, and then putting it back in when its time for service, don't know if its that way on the Lexus though. I don't know why they bother me so much, they just do. I like the look of the HID lights, so I'd just leave them on since the Lexus lights are auto off, but the nav screen inverts when the lights are on making it hard to see during the day.

Oh well, DRL's it is I suppose.

Thanks guys.

I'm sure there's an easy way to do it. I personally dislike DRLs so I would do whatever it takes to get them off. Here's how you do it on a Volkswagen, BTW. My girlfriend might get one so I'm doing some research today

There is probably a Japan/Europe component you could import which would also disable them. That way the car would still be 100% Lexus. We could compare wiring diagrams to find out what to do.

I can understand why the dealer wouldn't want to do it, though. I just think the warranty excuse is going out of the way. You know? It's just lights.

DRLs are touchy subjects with all dealers, I've heard. So probably better to not bother them about it. Hope this helps.

I think that having the amberish low lights makes it hard to see the details in the front of the car.

When I get mine I'll ask my mechanic what he thinks.
