hey bit, lexusrules is correct, the high beams and the DRL's are the same bulb. just different wattage. the other bulb, only comes on with the headlights, when the drl's are off.

1.) DRLs are NOT the wedge bulbs.

2.) He has a Candian spec GS, so his 9005s / HIGHS ARE his DRLs

3.) The wedge bulbs for US spec GSs are classified as PARKING lights, not DRLs; thats why they come on with one turn of the light stalk.

I have those installed as well. Pretty clean white light & an inexpensive upgrade! Still on the fence as far as stepping up to hid's.

I picked up a pair of Silverstars when Kragen had it on sale for $30/pair. I like the white look vs. the stock yellow halogens. If these weren't blue-coated, they'd put out even more light. But for marketing purposes, whiter light just looks brighter even if the actual light output is less than an equivalent non-coated halogen.

I want to get the 9005's and fix them so they would fit my 9006 harness and use the 9005's as my headlights.

9005 Silverstars = 1700 Lumens
9006 Silverstars = 1000 Lumens

Do you guys think I'd need to buy a new harness before I do all this so I don't really run the risk of melting my wires? How much would that run?

Nope.

9006 - 55W
9005 - 65W

The difference is not that significant. If you would put 80+W bulbs you could melt the harness, but with 65W ones you are safe. I have modified 9005 bulbs for the driving lights on my 95 SC400 for more than a year without any problems.

That is part of it.

Here is the link to one of the BMW pages that explains what needs to be done: 9005 to 9006 conversion

Here's a sister thread where sphereman plugged Silverstars into his SC and compared it to a stock SC's halogens. Philips VisionPlus is another good bulb to look into...

Hehe, yeah mrsyphyer

I actually popped in the 9005's without any modification! It was weird. Maybe it's just the sylvannia's or the guy replcaed my stock harness? I had to push a little harder but it works.

Could anybody tell me why? Is that a bad thing?

Thanks Sasha! I was messaging him from my phone because I was far from my computer

9005 bulbs in a 9006 socket will not damage anything in the circuit. I was using the same setup for about 6 months.

lex400sc - do you think its strange how I got the 9005 into the 9006 socket without any modifications? Is it cause the GS's are like this? Not sure but its all snug in there.

Bright as hell too. I need some yellow fogs for that Lexus HID look. Anybody who wants some clear fogs PM me. I know bitkahuna might trade at the next meet though.
