Hey...i just got a 1996 ES300 from my dad......i wanna get new headlamps because its too dark when i'm driving at night...i almost ran into a tree several times when i was driving at the neighborhood that i didn't really know.....i've done some research and i think i found the xenon bulbs for my car...but how do i install them??...do i just plug them in or something??...please help!!
Well... Xenon bulbs really arent going to brighten things up.. Some say you will get a crappyer pattern than offered with stock. If I were you, depending on the budget get an aftermarket HID kit. They are around 500 - 1000 bucks (correct me if I'm wrong). They do fit into the ES, I would do a search on "aftermarket HID" in the forum, there have been MANY posts regarding information/price/installation.
HID conversion kits are plug and play. It only takes a few minutes. You can change the headlights by twisting the blub 45 degrees and pulling it out, once you have disconnected the plug. The dealer will deff. not help you on this one. I don't know why you would want to goto the dealer anyway. All they want to do if rip you off. I highly recommed the conversion. I posted some HID pics from my car on this thread:
Its true in some cases, if you get a xenon bulb that is rated for a higher wattage than your car specifys, then yes you risk melting the sockets. If you get 65W xenon bulbs, and your car is rated at 65W....I dont see how you can burn your sockets. They dont last AS long, becuase they burn at a higher temp, this burning out the filiment quicker...MEH they are like 10 bucks at target
I'm putting my plug in for the SilverStars from Sylvania. Normal wattage (55W), so no concerns about melting. Certified 100% street legal, no ridiculous dim blue light (like the Hipers I had for a total of two days).
They look quite white coming out of the the ES's projectors. Almost as white as an OEM HID when viewed straight on (doesn't get the blue off axis like a true HID), but they're supposedly 4000K even. If I can borrow a digital camera, I can shoot some night pics.
