Default HID bulb fitment issue

Hey I tried searching but I didn't find what I was looking for.

I purchased a plug and play HID kit for my 97 SC300. I bought the kit off my friend who purchased it from ebay for his SC. He had 8000k bulbs but I wasnt planning on using them. Then I decided to try them out to see how it fits.

It turns out the bulbs weren't even fitting into the headlights. They are 9006 bulbs. But the base that go into the projector that seals moisture out is too fat. I looked at the stock bulbs and they are skinnier.

So I thought maybe if I purchase another pair of bulbs they would fit. I wasn't planning on using 8000k anyways. I purchased a pair of 6000k and they are not fitting the same way.

Am I doing something wrong? I never installed HIDs before but this just seems strange to me. Do I need a spacer? Can someone help me out? Thanks in Advance.

Here are pics of my problem:

Buy a set of 9005/HB3 bulbs. Or you could undo the 3 screws on each projector housing, place the bulbs in and screw the bits back in so it gently holds the bulb. It seems like the factory headlight housings will only accept an OEM Koito HB4 bulb and no other type.

umm not true, I have 9006 Prolumen bulbs...I would recommend shaving a bit of the tabs on the bulbs...not too dangerous as long as you dont put the actual bulb part in any danger.

You can try 9005's...but i believe they will yield the same results, what brand are the bulbs you bought? by color of wires...ima assume KWD/K-Lite

dont use spacers because the focal point of the bulb will not be lined up like it should inside the projector housing

I believe the brand is McCulloch. I contacted them about it so I'll see what they do.

Hey I haven't solved this issure yet. I just bought from sylvania silverstars to see if they fit but the same thing is happening. Does anybody else's SC have this problem? It seems kind of weird. Are my headlights from a JDM car? Because I have another set of JDM soarer headlights and it's doing the same thing. My friend that I purchased the HID kit from said he test fitted them and they fit his car.

Are there any company's that sell HID bulbs that have a skinnier base? I'll contact Xenondepot and see what they say.

swap the rubber ring off the halogen bulb onto the aftermarket HID bulb. should fit fine with the old ring on it.

Thanks for the quick reply but it's not the ring. It's the actual plastic base that the ring is holding onto. It's just way too fat. I don't want to shave it either.

I just want to know if either my headlights are different or is there a bulb that can fit them properly. I'm thinking of just buying new headlights.

Wow.. this is unusual. What you can do is either file it down like some have said, or you can just duct tape it, and seal the surrounding with silicone :P
