Factory HID question / problem
Has anyone put in aftermarket HID bulbs (not the kit, just the bulbs) & been sucessful..........?
I recently bought & tried to install a set of D2S Philips 6000K HID bulbs, with no sucess, I mean they fit like a glove & they came on shinned bright, but only for 30 sec to a minute, then they cut off.... Now @ first I thought it was just the bulb, but after trying 7 different bulbs, I gotta think it wasnt the bulbs..................
Any ideas, any suggestion, any thoughts, would be greatly appreciated.........

Well the IS has D4S bulbs.... this could be why?? D4S are the next gen of HID bulbs. My guess is that they have different electrical needs. IE amout of power required to keep them on. If they turn off that would mean that new D4S bulbs require less power to stay on so less power is provided to the bulb from the ballast

i wanna do the same. i wonder if the temp of the bulb is what makes the HIDs seem so "weak". i see the TL, TSX, and others drive by with great color. you guys know if its the quality of the projector lenses, or the color of the bulbs? i hope its just the bulbs, that way i can also just go out and maybe get a higher temp bulb, but something tells me its going to be the quality or cut of the projector.

The new IS uses a new type of Mercury free HID bulb. They are now called D4S & D4R. D4S is for projectors & D4R is for reflector type headlights. I also believe the new system takes less wattage. I believe they are now 4800K and 5800K. Not too sure. Type in D4S on the search, it'll turn up a few results.
