Default GS400 HID turning purple? 3 questions

I noticed one of my headlights changing colors the other night while i was driving. I was pulling into my driveway and noticed the color reflecting off of my garage wall. The passenger side light was a purple-ish color while my other HID was the white-ish blue it normally is.

When HID's are about to go out, do they turn purple?

If it needs to be replaced, recommendations on most inexpensive place to buy these bulbs?

Is there a DIY to replace these lights without having to take it to dealer?

TIA

HID bulbs will grow dimmer and color shift as the get older (used). Usually if you have a matching pair, they will shift at the same time. If a bulb goes out, it's better to get a new matching pair of D2R bulbs to make sure they match during their life. You can change them just like how you would change a regular halogen bulb.

check out the sylvania silverstar website that's in the sticky above.. They carry all oem size bulbs for our GS's. Buying the stock oem D2R bulbs are inexpensive than the aftermarket ones.. GL keep us posted.

Thanks guys. What are the stock headlight beam color(i.e. 4.5k, 6k, 10k)? I'd like to keep the OEM look.

I'm having the same problem as you. I bought 2 brand new Philips bulbs and one is very purple while the other is white still. So I dunno about them always aging the same. I'm just gonna leave it for now and see if the other shifts. Didn't know only one year of use would cause them to change so much

You bought both bulbs 1 year ago or did you recently buy one/both and one of them is purple from the time you installed it?
