Can HID's double as DRL
Hey guys. Thinking of putting an 6k HID kit in my Rav4. I believe that the lowbeam doubles as the drl at 50% output. Can I use an HID kit for this kind of setup with the drl still functional?
well if you get a kit then it will work perfect for you its plug and play same as retrofitting.. just retrofitting takes more time but looks much better... but if you get a kit it will work fine enjoy your hid kit
they have kits for these cars just check ebay im pretty sure it will work i put my old hid kit on my girls jetta and hers is drl it works perfect... only thing that can mess up the kit is turning the lights on and off but if the run all day thats great they would just color shift faster
hids can double as DRLs ied assume, as long as your using a relay that can be turned on at the reduced voltage. Check and see if the power on the headlights when the DRLs are on is enough to flip a normal 12v relay. If it flips it then yes, your HID kit could stay on anytime you drive. However i doubt there is any way to cause the HID ballast to run the bulbs at a reduced output. If you have any questions PM me and ill clarify what im trying to say.
also, what type of bulb does the rav4 use again?

HIDs can't run at reduced voltage so if you want to use them, just leave the headlights on.
HID's cannot run at the reduced voltage, but if his wiring harness was able to be turned on by the original headlight wire at the reduced voltage, he will still be able to get the discount on insurance as he will still legally have headlights that are always on.
The LX470 had a problem with the DRLs being too bright but they had a TSB/Notice sent to all the owners to come in and get it done at their next service. I think the NTSB told em to make em dimmer.
