Default HID / Xenon Look

I don't know much about this, but I understand it is a complicated subject...

Achieving the HID look on a non-HID GS300. I've heard that the best (and most expensive) way to get it done is to swap out your entire lighting system with a new system, that would come stock on a GS430. I've also heard about conversion kits and bulbs. My next two projects are getting HID/yellow fogs and '06 430 rims.

I've heard that getting new bulbs isn't always the best idea because they can burn wiring, etc. I don't know much about the conversion kits (~$200) but I heard they can cause damage too. What is the most economical way to get an HID set-up while making sure that your car does not get hurt in the process? And what things need to be known about the HID system that are different from a normal lighting system - are there checkups that need to be done or any special maintenance?

Thanks for the help all...

if you can be patient. look for a used set of hid headlights with bulbs and ballasts for a good price on ebay or something. imho that's the "only" good option

are there any considerations or special things to look for in picking up a pair that is used? will buying used decrease life or long term performance in any way?

you can spend $40 a pair for Silverstars to make them much whiter, but not quite like hid.
I have them in my highbeams.

From what I understand the reason some bulbs burn up wiring is beacuse they draw a higher current. Like 100 watters vs. the standard 55 watt bulbs. Go hids dude. take it from me, yeah the silverstars do look slightly different, but man thos hids make a world of difference. You can find some nippon densos on ebay & they command a premium, but I think its well worth it. I have them on my supra and my gs. Had the silverstars on my old sc. Kinda cheesy looking compared to the real deal.. I went with the 6500k bulbs and wow both cars stand waaayyy out in traffic..

find yourself a real good HID kit, or find a used OEM housing with factory HID componenets. otherwise you could always try to see if someone on the boards here is selling a retrofit kit
