Problem: 4500K to 6000K bulbs
hey guys, I just recently bought some 6000K bulbs...phillips d2r....exact replacement...
okay so I go to put them in my car and to my amazement....ITS LOOKS THE FREAKIN SAME as my 4500K bulbs..... okay so I thought maybe I was sent the wrong bulbs, so I go to install them in my friends GS400...and they look blueish/purple.......okay so wtf?
so the questions are:
does the BALLAST matter?
are the BALLASTS from older model GS'S diff from Newer?
and why does this ish always happen to me?

Since your buddy has a 400 and you have a 430....the color may be due to the color tone/tint in the headlight housing?
yeah ballasts shouldn't make a single difference at all. that's very weird. did you try to change only one side to 6000k and see if you get any difference with the stock bulbs? i am kinda surprised. even with the green tint on the headlight it should still be noticeable

Another reason could be like what Philips mentioned on their website....that all HID bulbs will eventually become bluer and bluer....esp noticeable if you only replace a single HID bulb....it will not match your older HID bulb.
In your case, Im guessing both your 4500K HID bulbs have started to become bluer.....where its now nearing actual 6000K color temp.

Let me clear things up guys...
I have a GS430... I have stock 4500K bulbs ....I bought 6000K bulbs...
I put the 6000K bulbs in my gs430...They looked the same as my 4500K... to make certain there was no difference I put one 4500K in my gs430 and the other side being 6000K.... there was no difference...none what so ever...they looked exactly the same...
to make sure I didnt get sold bad bulbs I put them in my friends gs400 (non UV tinted headlights) i put both 6000K in his housings and it came out to be blue/violet...which is the color i was hoping for... then I put both 4500K in his housings and they came out white/semi-violet....
to test the bulbs together i put one 6000K in my friends gs400 and one 4500K ....there WAS a difference in color....
but when I go back to putting the 6000K in my housing....there is no friggen difference....WTH is going on?
my only explanation could be the way it is aligned? but if the light level device is correct then what the heck am I suppose to do?

alignment shouldn't be a problem. as long as the bulbs are clipped in correctly that's all you have to worry about. i still can't figure out why you are seeing the difference. did you try to shane the light (one 4500k and one 6000k) from your gs430 on a white wall (instead of looking at the headlights directly) and see if you see color difference on the wall? how about on the ground?
my 6000k they show difference on the wall and ground

yeah I actually did all this at night....up against a pure white garage door... i should have taken pictures...but yeah there was literally no difference.............helllllllpppppp meee dont tell me i wasted 200+ bucks
this is really confusing, i can't figure out a reason why.... it would be a good test if you can hook up the bulbs OUTSIDE of the headlights and see if there is color difference (that will proof if the lens on the headlight are casuing problem), but how the hell are you going to hold the bulbs....

Have you tried switching ballasts on each side? You can also pull the bulbs outside of the housing, point them at the wall, and see if there is a difference.

I wouldn't be as worried about voltage as I would about heat. (Speaking from experience.)

I just changed my 2004 GS430 from the stock HID bulbs to a Philips Ultinon D2R 6000k bulbs and there is definitely a difference - more blue-violet than the stock bulb. Matches my 9-LED DRL wedge light very well. By-the-way thanks goes out to rominl for the instructions on how to change them - I had very little problem doing it and I have very large hands ( wear XL/XXL gloves ). Hope you get to the bottom of this Panda GS430.
