Default Subwoofer/sound junkies get in here !

Need some help deciding what to get. I installed an aftermarket Head Unit and lost my stock sub so I'm thinking of upgrading and getting some aftermarket stuff.

I'm looking for something pretty basic, nothing crazy just something that will give me a bit extra bass.

Here are the 2 options i've found for sale both about $350
option 1
-Alpine ida-x305 head unit
-insignia amp
-2x12" insignia subs
-bassworx box
-fuse box+fuse
-wiring
asking $375 obo

option 2
-2 Alpine Type R's (12 inch)
-Alpine MRD-M501 Digital Amp
-Bassworks Ported Box
-Tsunami 1.2 Farad Capacitor
-A few Wires
asking $350 obo

Thanks In Advance

That's what I'm thinking, the insignia amp and subs is like a budget deal from best buy. Most expensive thing in option 1 was the head unit lol

Default Insignia?

I'd stay away from these store brands - none of their products are impressive - even on their specs.
While some brands are impressive at least on paper (my experience with Sony receiver), reputed brands never disappoint you.

Also, why go for Insignia when you can get Alpine setup for the same cost?

I don't know that much about brands for sound system, I heard alpine was good, but not much about insignia, the reason why I liked the insignia it basically came with everything I need, all wires and etc plus a better head unit, but i've been looking around and it seems like the type r's are good. Just hopefully the guy answers me soon !

Im not a fan of he type R's personally, they are loud in a ported box but they lack in sound quality. It all depends on what you are looking for at the moment. If you want loud, then bang for the buck theyre a good choice, if you want some sound quality, i would opt for a single 12" in a sealed box, maybe a JL W6, or Digital Designs has some preety sweet subs. One of the better SQ subs around that get preety loud are the IDMAX but theyre hard to come by since Image Dynamics went out of business last year i think. If you look around and can get a hold of one, theyre worth the $ imo.

If only I read this post a bit earlier lol. I wasn't really ready to spend a lot of cash on something super high quality, i just needed something decent that would give me some extra bass. A buddy of mine has some type s which helped give me a rough estimate on how it sounds. The guy let it go for $300 for everything so it's not bad.

yuck, type r's are the brown note sub, and that little amp is going to do nothing for them.

They are quite popular at AVS where we concentrate on nothing but sound quality for music and home theater. Same at DIY Mobile Audio.

JL is good but you pay a premium price. I've seen the DD build quality at fixmyspeaker.com's shop. Horrible. As he was tearing it down for a rebuild, he showed me multiple places where they cut corners.
