I currently drive an is250 and need advice for a system around $300-500. 2 subs and an amp. trying not to take too much space in the trunk. its already small as it is.
1. are you looking for sound quality or pressure level (loud)?
2. 3-500 isn't much of a budget to work with. you have to take into account: box/enclosure, amp wiring, connecting it to head unit, and installation if you can't diy.
i can do all the installation and enclosure will be a separate budget. just trying to get all the main components. what i'm mainly looking for is quality sound out of a subwoofer, clean, crisp bass and somewhat loud.
2 Alpine Type R 10" Subwoofers pushed by one Alpine MRP-M1000. Or one Alpine Type X Subwoofer powered by the same MRP-M1000. Personally I would go with a single Type X. Type R's can be had for around $100 a piece. Type X is around $220. MRP-M1000 is around $250.
so i'm planning to run 1 12 alpine type x, with the alpine MRP-M1000, and a 2 farad capacitor (massive possibly, unless anyone thinks that's a bad idea). with this load would the capacitor be sufficient? what are your opinions with this set up?
Don't do the capacitor. They have proven to do more harm than good. Upgrade your battery to either an optima or kinetik. and do Big 3 upgrade (upgrade to larger cables for battery/alternator grounds). Make sure you build a proper enclosure for the sub. I believe 1.25 ft^3 Sealed is what Alpine told me for sound quality.

which model should i be looking for to handle the 1000 watts the amp will be needing. also when I upgrade the big 3, would using a 0 gauge wire for all 3 be a good idea? also what gauge wire for the power wire to the amp?
Get the Kinetik 1800, you want the largest size that fits the 2GS battery tray. Definitely use 0 AWG for upgrading the big 3. You will need 4AWG power wire to run the amp. I am in the process of ordering getting all my audio parts together. At first I was going with 2 type r's then type X's and now I just bit the bullet and spent double the $$ on a W7.
I think that will do fine, I have been wanting to try that brand because they have had good reviews about their cables and are priced well too. I purchased 14 feet of Monster 1/0 AWG for $40 off amazon. Monster and Kicker are the two most preferred brands for high quality car audio cable.
