Good Door Speaker Replacements
What do you guys think of these for replacement door speakers? They will be going into my 2000 es300. Might try them out on stock amp for a bit but will most likely be buying an aftermarket amplifier to power them. I've only heard good things of Cadence and I can get a set of 4 for 78$

I used Phoenix Gold in my ES-350 - https://www.clublexus.com/forums/es3...-a-2007-a.html
Wasn't planning on using a crossover, besides the filters on the amp. And for tweeters, I might upgrade to some PPI's if I feel the stock aren't up to par! Thanks for link, and nice work! I'm not looking for audiophile quality, but definitely looking for some awesome sound!
No crossover was one of the big problems with the ES-350 stock system. The mids in the doors ran full range and pulled the soundstage down. Adding component speakers with a proper crossover moved the soundstage up on the dash where it is supposed to be. Heck, my speakers were $80 used. They are widely known as some of the best budget components but nowhere close to audiophile quality. Go look at the prices of the Dynaudio, CDT and DLS component systems.
Had I not gone with PG components, I would have probably gone with Cadence - http://www.cadencesound.com/products/CWM6KIT.html . Actually Crescendo was first on my list but the were between model years and had nothing in stock.

agreed Cadence makes some higher quality products I have a pair of CVLT10 's in my truck.. but the pair you referenced are loud speakers designed to sound good from far away... and sound far from good...up close.. IMHO.. there are better options... an H1 humvee is an awesome military vehicle.. an yes it works on public words but its not ideally suited for the task.

The XM64V is just Cadence going to more of the pro-audio style mids.
Sundown is doing it with their 6.5" pre-order and their existing 8" and 10" models. Crescendo is also jumping into the game. Finally an unexpected but good fit entered the car audio market not long ago - Emenince. Yep, the pro-audio company is not making pro-audio style mids.
As far as near field vs far field listening, I haven't heard anyone mention that there is a difference. These are just high sensitivity mids that don't play that low.
They need a proper crossover and tweeter that will match sensitivity. A lot of guys go with Selinium pro audio tweeters as a good match. If you are going fully active then they will be easier to integrate as a system.
The Cadence system I linked earlier. Any of the PG component sets. All these are designed to work as a system and the passive crossover ties everything together nicely.
Trying to build a nice component set is like trying to build a car by buying random parts from Autozone. Yes, they may bolt together and even run but how will the car handle? If you don't have the time or knowledge to properly integrate all of the parts, its better to buy something that works well together.

Why wouldn't these be the right speakers to use?
What would be better speakers for the price tag of 76$ for all 4?

Is a crossover really necessary? I've never built a complete stereo system, I've only done sub and amp. But I'm looking for a more balanced sound now with a little thump. How about some advice?
In my opinion, it is absolutely necessary for decent sound. And not just a textbook crossover, but on designed specifically for the speakers being used.
Let's take the Dayton RS 7" woofer as an example - http://www.parts-express.com/pe/show...number=295-355 . If you look at the specs, it works up to 3,500 hz. You use that to create a 2nd order filter and get a matching tweeter to put in your car. It's going to sound like crap. Why? You followed all of the formulas. That woofer has a known break-up above 2,200 hz. So unless you are intimately familiar with the drivers in question or have your own testing equipment, stick with a pre-packaged set of component speakers.

Thanks Robert J.. i have this same conversation at least once a week...
Pro Audio or concert loudspeakers have been adapted to car audio over the past few yrs... they weren't designed for a car audio environment.. off axis response is terrible.. but if they are to be used a crossover network is a must.... jus adding sub complicates the issue...the midrange speaker is designed to play the mid range of the audio spectrum... ie 250hz-3500hz (more or less) then tweets pick the signal up from there goin 3500hz-15khz.. while mid bass and or subs run the lower end of the spectrum 100-250hz & 0-100hz respectively ...
i tell all my customers the more info u have the better the decision u can make. (whether u get the product from me or not) i have a well known former athlete as a client.. asking for a Sound Quality system where overall volume wasnt the issue.. less than a week later he returned w/3 tweets that caught on fire( seriously)
letting me know volume was more of an issue than he originally said.. so i took out the $500 component sets an put the $99 coaxes with a pair of $50 tweets in ea location.. now he's as happy as a P.I.S.
go around an listen to a few brands side by side if possible..
decide what type of sound ur lookin for, find the RIGHT speaker for the job and ENJOY...
Happy Holidays.....
