Multiple Subs in SC Trunk - HUGE System
My car is an SC. This question is for those with Subs in the TRUNK. What kind of sound quality do you get? Can you hear the subs adequately? I’ve taken about a year to put together a really impressive audio system only to now find out the location I picked for the subs may not work. I’m definitely moving the rear deck speakers so that so that there will be direct holes to the trunk but my installer doesn't think it will be enough with the gas tank in the worst place it can be for an audio setup!! They are leaning towards three 8” free airs (infinite baffle) across the rear deck. My PPI sub amp pushes out over 1000W!!! I can’t run 3 8’s with that much power! Please let my know what your lows sounds like. Thanks!!

how about this. i'll trade you you my alpine v12 2 channel amp and some moeny for your amp and you give me your amp??
well i have a first generation GS and i took out the firewall on the back seat. so now if i took off my back seat i could see my gas tank. i have an opening of about 1 feet by 4 feet, so my sound system sounds good

Thanks for the info and I’m also considering removing the firewall. I really want the subs to have a clean sound. That amp you’re asking about is a PPI PCX-2200. Thanks for the offer but I already have it mated with the PCX-480. All together, the amps are rated at 1600W!
So with all the work/money I’ve put into this system, I want it to sound as good as it looks. The retail on these amps are high but you may want to check out eBay! Thanks!

Guys...don't remove so much metal out of your car. This can really mess up the structural integrity of your vehicle. I took out the rear deck and I can feel the difference in handeling. I will be putting a couple of custom strut bars back there.Rear deck is the best idea so far...take out as little metal as possible!
Retro is right. The car is designed as a whole, and to minimize the number of parts (and cost) needed to achieve both structural integrity and desired handling characteristics. The deck is a part of the unibody. If you remove a lot of the deck, it should be re-braced to maintain rigidity. Without sitting at Lexus knowing how the deck intentionally factors into the structure of the car and exactly what the ramifications are of removing it, it's risky. It's folded, creased, or bent for a reason - for rigidity in certain directions - otherwise it would be flat.
EvoTuned: If you're gonna mount subs in your deck (and cut into it in the process), why only 8"'s? You'll likely be missing out on clean low-end bass, and you may wind up fighting more peaks and cancellations from multiple drivers. You're likely better off having one or two larger diameter drivers than (3) 8"s, i.e. (2) 10"s or (1) 12", etc., as long as you get good quality ones...you already have the amp power...but maybe what you're saying is that you can't physically fit larger drivers in? Just my two cents. One other thing - as long as you're careful with the gain settings, why not use the amp that you have? It's always better to have too much power than not enough.

Quite a few pics, but not much comment on how they sound! I guess you can ask those that posted, though.
I can't comment on mine, either, since it is not finished, but here's the work so far:

I believe this one belongs to SC300TURBO:

Thanks for the info. My installer said he could only get .38 cu ft back there on each side for each sub. I’m going to find out exactly what dimensions he has for the boxes, then go to a local university, and talk to an engineering teacher I know. Maybe he will be able to come up with a shape of a box that will meet .5 cu ft. One side of each box is angled down towards the middle of the trunk floor so I’d like to see what’s the minimum angle I could use while meeting the volume. It really may not be possible so I may have to switch my Alpine Type R’s for some IB subs. I’ve heard they can’t go very low or hold a lot of power but it may be my only choice. My installer said 3 8” because we could use all the holes without much cutting. I will still try to put the subs in the trunk since people on hear have said they do have a good sound.
