Question

I never really drive more then 5 miles over the speed limit, AND DAMMMIT I WANT TO! I push a Lex, I shoudl get soem driving pleasure from it, but seeing how I'm 16 and it would disastrous to get a ticket at my age, i need a radar detector for some added insurance. Anyone have any opinions on the best one out there? I really appreciate and help, thank you!

A radar detector is not going to keep you from getting a ticket. And in that top heavy 450 you just need to enjoy the ride and don't worry about going fast, besides if you go to fast the girls will not be able to get a good look,So slow down, your young and have a lot to look forward too

Exclamation V1

Francis - I think the majority of the CL members ( myself included ) use & endorse the Valentine 1. It's expensive but has paid for itself many times over. It may be due for a technology upgrade by now ( hasn't changed since it's inception in the late 80's or early 90's - not sure ) & there's a discussion on the old site about the new BEL & Cincinnati Microwave models meeting or exceeding the V1 now. Might go back & look there or wait for one of the mags to do a new test - also think there's a link to a website test at the old site.

Just to let you know he is around. The way it works is that he shoots at a car, your detector picks that up.If he fires at you your busted with or with out a jammer or any other fancy equipment.Take it slow enjoy the world.Hell you have only been driving for a year

Cool Radar Detector

FrancisK

Take it easy and enjoy yourself. My 17 year old ran afoul of the Georgia teenage driving laws only 4 months after he got his license. 75 in a 50. Automatic license suspension for 6 months. Painful lesson. I would suggest forgetting the detector until you are 25 when your insurance rates go down. Do I sound like a Dad?

Cool

Without a doubt, the best detector is the Escort Passport 8500. I've owned the V1 and sent it back. It's 10 years old and seriously showing its age. The only thing it has that the 8500 doesn't is arrows, and they are of dubious value. When it comes to features, sensitivity, design and appearance, the 8500 wins hands down.

Whether you drive fast enough to need one is up to you. My only recommendation is to drive within your abilities.

Thumbs up

I've been using the new Escort 8500 for the past week or so and really like it. I stopped using radar detectors years ago because they all false too much. After reading a few reviews (www.radartest.com etc.) the feature that got my attention was the 8500's ability to turn off any band...in particular the X-band. No more unnecessary beeping and brapping locating every door opener down Camp Bowie Blvd.

The 8500 has yet to report a false Ka-band and has great sensitivity. I'm finding radar traps that I never knew were there with the 8500.

Lastly $300.00 is the most I'd spend on any detector. (unless it had an active jammer built-in, which is illegal anyway)

My vote goes to the Escort 8500. Give one a try...if you don't like it send it back.

I need a detector too, but i know the roads where there rnt any cops so i take those. Have u done anything to ur LX and do the girls love it? the girls cant get enough of my SC.

Cool What up baby!

Nice to meet you man! I am actually lookin for a late model SC for the summertime! What are the stats on yours?! Yes! The girls doooo love it and YES ALL THE GUYS ARE JEALOUS AND TALK SMACK, but deep down inside they know they can't roll with me, well with their "hooked up" escorts and rangers and let's not forget, the only luxury car a teenager at SHS knows, the grand prix and grand am, hahahah what a joke, god these guys think the best a car gets is a camaro or a mustang, TRASH! My Lex is bone stock so far, thinkin about a performance exhaust, not a loud one, and a K&N air filter, just to make it a bit faster(any suggestions?) cause the only thing those losers can say is "my car is faster than yours" well yours don't say LEXUS on it and my car and run over your car, that's how I usually reply. So nice to meet you man!
