Default extra battery? 15 farad capacitor? both?

im in the process of doing my system and was thinking of using a phoenix gold powercore xl (15 farad). it will be drawing its power from an optima yellow top and will be powering a 350w amp, 450w amp, 2 viair 380c compressors, and a couple sound processors. i have a 300w amp in the car now, and when the compressors are on, the voltage drops and varies between 11-11.4v when im idle and varies between 12.3 to 12.6v when im driving. now my question is, would it be better to use a second yellow top battery or use the 15f capacitor to solve my voltage problems?

you need high current alternator and add whatever you like( cap or bat) in the trunk.

your problem is that you do not have enough power to start with. Adding a very huge capacitor would put additional strain on the electrical system. Same with adding a second battery.

And I highly recommend looking at some other battery as a second battery. Optima batteries aren't made like they use to. The yellow has poor deep cycling capability. Drain the battery below 10.5v a few times and I can guarantee you it's going to die out eventually. It's been tested before so I'm not making this up However, some people do have luck with them.

Do it right and get a bigger alternator. It's expensive, but it's what you should be doing in the first place.

As an alternative to the Optima check out the Sears Die Hard Plantinum batteries, which are backed by a 4 year full replacement warranty and are deep cycle capable, and have an excellent reserve capacity. Picked mine up for $180 and its been great.., and my setup runs 1200W RMS (rated at 12v), and at 14.1V it pulls more..

I'm an audio newbie to the hilt; but a 15 Farad capacitor would be larger than your car.

i have a 98 gs300, 2 digital designs 12" dual voice coil 2ohm woofers, running off a mmats 2200.1 amp, powered by 2 optima yellow tops, 180 amp irragi alternator, when the bass hits my voltage drops down to @ running idle 12 vlts and my amp is wired @ .5ohm and trust me it is LOUD. my advice would be the sears batteries, and give dominick a call from irragi alt his # is 6152877991 tell him kenny sent ya from philly he does alts for competiton cars i had 1 in another car i had when i use to compete. he could set u up with an external regulator, and external rectifier setup. its more effiecent that way. just give him a call. he will hook u up, tell him u want the smaller pulley on the alt.
