Soon after I bought my 2IS, I went low-budget and installed a packaged Soundstream bass system (2 -10” Picasso boxed subs, 180 x 2 amp). It was ok for filling out the bottom end on the factory system, but this system wasn’t clean, couldn’t hit hard, and was obviously underpowered. So I went out last weekend and bought the Alpine MRP-M650 mono amp, I replaced the SS amp (wired the subs in parallel) and noticed a big improvement right away. Now the problem was the amp kept going into protect if I cranked it up. So I started digging around and found that the SS subs are dual-voice coil, making the amp run under a 1 ohm load, which it apparently is not rated for.
My question is, is there someway I can wire both subs at a 2 ohm load and not overload the amp? Is it possible to just wire one voice coil on each amp without any degradation in sound quality? What is the best way to wire this configuration? For now, I’m just running one sub off the amp, which sounds surprisingly good. I have to gain the amp down so I don’t blow the sub though. Eventually I’ll replace the subs with better ones but for now I’d like to make this work.
if they are dual voice coil, then how were they wired?
if in a parallel setup, you can go series and get around 2 ohms depending on what your speakers ohm's are...
you should tell us what ohm rating your subs are first.
but if u can use a series style wiring, then you should be ok.

I haven't taken one of the subs out of the box yet to see how it is wired exactly. I just assumed the voice coils were wired in parallel to each other on each sub. I do know the subs are rated for 4 ohms. I guess my question would have been better phrased like this: I have two dual voice coil 4-ohm subs that i would like to power with a mon sub at 2 ohms... what is the proper way to wire this system?
i used to deal with these problems all the time...
sometimes you have to go and buy new stuff.. because:
its impossible to wire TWO 4ohm subs at a 2 ohm impendance,
only 4 ohms and 1ohm is possible
i hope thats not really bad news.
if you have 2X 2ohm subs you can do i think .5 and 2 ohm loads
