Default Removing Stock Sub?

I just had 2 JL Audio W6's put in my 1996 SC400. It bumps and sounds excellent, but I know it could sound better if I ported my trunk- and doing so would involve taking out the stock subwoofer. I took it to the shop that did all my work and they said that this required removing the seats, the rear deck, and going in that way.

Can you confirm this?

Thanks!

Just lift up the front of the speaker cover with your fingers and slide it forward.

You can remove the sub from the top of the rear deck, they told you the rear seats had to come out and they couldn't be more incorrect. Just remove the speaker cover and pull the sub out. You may need to take off the 4 screws at the corners and give it some muscle but it will come out. Then disconnect the wiring and you are good to go.

Ok thanks guys.

The shop didnt look at it from the top, but he looked at it from in the trunk and said it would be a pain to do but they could do it. Im sure they would have realized they were wrong once they started on taking it out. Nevermind that though, Ill just take it out myself and take it to them for the Dynamtting.

I cant seem to get the cover off with my hands and I dont want to force it. Would prying it up with something put much stress on a certain area? I mean.. how delicate is this thing

I'm currently in the same boat but with a 2nd gen GS. Is rear seat removal necessary?

For the second generation GS, you have to remove the back seat, remove bottom seat, remove six bolts holding back section of seat, remove interior trim panel side cover by back glass, than you should be able to slide the top cover on the deck lid off to get access to the stock subwoofer.

Not as bad as it sounds... takes about 10-15 mins or so to do.

Not unless you are putting pressure on the rear deck lid. Niraj is right that you dont need to remove the rear lid, but taking it out makes things A TON easier.
