central console removal, cig. lighter outlet problem
Cigarette lighter outlet in my SC400 94' is behaving very strange..sometimes there is no power at all, sometimes everything is OK. First I checked the fuse...was OK. Then I checked the voltage on the outlet...was only 9.5 V. When I connect anything there, voltage drops. So I think ,it is a bad connection of wires under the outlet. I just don't know how to get the outlet out. Should I remove whole central console? If yes...how do I do that?
Anybody have the simmilar problem and can give me advice?
Thx,
Pinio

Hey Pinio
had the same problem took it apart a dozen times, took the lighter apart thinking it was that cleaned up the contacts etc. turned out to be the the electrical connector in the consol.check that you have power to that ,if not check fuse on your kick panel. GOOD LUCK!!

Hey dean s
I checked the fuse and it's OK. So after removing console, I will check connection to the lighter outlet and also connection you've mentioned in your post. Can you tell me where this console connection exactly is?
Is it visible or I have to dig through the wires to find it?
Thanks alot for the hint!

You can determine if the problem is in the hot lead or the ground lead. If you measure a lower than normal voltage from the center contact of the lighter plug to chassis ground then the problem is in the lighter socket's hot lead. If voltage to chassis ground is normal but voltage across the 2 contacts of the lighter socket is low then the problem is in the ground side of the lighter socket wiring..
after removing the center consol just follow the lead from the bottom of the lighter ,its right there about 4 or 5 inches ,cant miss it..just check to make sure the hot wire has a good connection.
