My son's friend, an 8th grader who is a car fanatic, insists that my '04 LS430 should play MP3 format songs burned onto a CD. I haven't tried it yet, but I suspect if it were true it would say so somewhere. Anyone know about this?
Also, it occurred to me that with the new iPod holding thousands of songs, the whole CD format is obsolete. There should be a place where you plug in a memory chip, like with digital cameras, that you can load up with songs on your PC. Just my thought.
Just tired it...Well it played but no sound . No error though. Always displayed track #1. I remember getting an error when putting mp3 disks to CD player on a 97 SC300.
Bummer. Yes, I convert to WAV and can get about 17 songs on a disc. They need to come up with an MP3 format that allows hundreds of songs of storage on a car radio. In the meantime, the Mark Levinson will have to do.
let's clear the confusion shall we.
if u have mp3 cd then it's in .mp3 format that the computer can read and the players that specifically say "mp3" on it and none have been made by lexus up to date. so please don't bother finding out.
on the other hand you can downlaod mp3's and then burn them on a cd player in .wav format, approx 14 to 17 per cd. these at the end are the same cd formats with songs that you buy at a music store. simple straight music cd's.
end of story.
Use the I-pod - buy a FM transmitter attachment for it and play the MP3s through the FM stereo in the car... I think that Delkin / Belkin makes one for sure and then you have 20 - 40GB of MPS and can make your own playlists etc.., 1 for fast driving - 1 for cruising etc.., Don' t know of the quality through FM but I am told it's decent...
I have tried the fm modulator for ipod. its by belkin.
quality is no where near acceptable. lot's of noise, and it sounds like a radio station with poor reception.
it's better to use the fm modulator that attaches to your antenna wire going to the physical car oem stereo system. just like the add on cd-changers. best bet is to buy an alpine or sony 6 or 10 disc add on cd-changer that plays mp3 formats as well. they're around $200 on sale these days. you can use that in addition to your existing factory cd-changer. why invest in the $400plus ipod if you can have all that mp3 data on 4 to 5 cdr's that costs a buck and a half. ?
