Default Replacing 21" tires

Question, I'm coming up on end of life RF Bridgestons and have the 21 inch option rim. Going to go with the Pilot 4 all seasons. You went with the 255's on the fronts, our front stk rims will handle? Also is the sidewall a little taller, and the tread a spec wider? You've had no problem? Thanks

Yes - 255/40/21 is fine on an 8½" wheel. The OD difference is .3" bigger (29.0" vs 28.7") Not something to worry about

Thanks Lou. I contacted tire rack and they said Lexus would not recommend because it was 1/4 inch higher than the 275's in the rear. Also, I was concerned about the look of a little higher sidewall but the eye may not pick it up or look unusual, is what I am thinking.

Thanks Lou Tire rack said Lexus would not recommend because 255 would be higher than the 275's in the rear by 1/4 inch. I was also concerned with the look of the sidewall being a little taller and not looking right. Want the look of the present, but I believe its a small increase to be able to pick up eye wise.

To fodalo

Tire Rack is correct. A 275/35/21 tire is 28.5" in OD, a 255/40/21 is 29" in OD. I believe you are looking at the PS4S and it is not available in the 285/35/21 size recommended by Mr. Bitkahana (with the smiley face). However the Dunlop Sport MAXX RT2 is. Those two sizes are OEM for MB. A 285/35/21 will fit the rear 9½" wheel,

Lou

Lou
Im actually going to go with the all season PS4 not the 4S. Im not looking to track this and do not push her and goes into storage from mid Nov. to Mid Apr. longer wearing tire with the PS4 not the 4S, even with the offset rears to fronts.
Thanks Bitka. that may be the better option if the rears come in the 285/35 PS4 all seasons, I will dig into it, on the run at the moment. Thanks Guys!

^^^^The AS PS4 only comes in seven 21" sizes. 285/35/21 is not among them:

If you store the LC in the winter, what's your issue with running summer tires? The LC is a true performance car that will take advantage of summer tires. Max Performance PS4S are HiPo summer street tires, not track tires. The tire category aimed for track is Extreme Performance and the Michelin tire that fits that category is the PS Cup 2.

If it were me wanting to stick with the stock wheels, I would go with the Dunlops I mentioned above.

Lou

Hey Lou
after further review 245-40 rim OD 28.7 v.s (255-40 OD 29.0) are still larger than the 275-35 OD 28.5 by .3 of which I mentioned, Lexus does not like the front OD's to be larger than the Rear OD's and are with the OEM's. So back to your solution Lou I will go with the 255-40 just .3 more and as u say will be fine.
Thanks again my friend.

Default Quieter tires for 21" wheels

The previous owner of my LC500 put 255/40 R21 P-Zeroes (w/ PNCS) on front and 295/35 R21 Michelin Latitude Sport SUV tires on the rear. They aren't run-flats so I carry an inflator with sealant so I can limp to a service station if I get a flat. No complaints with grip or ride quality, but these tires are kinda loud on coarse concrete at freeway speeds.

I'm considering a set of Michelin Pilot All Season 4s - they're OEM on the C8 Corvette, so pretty sporty for all-seasons. They're are available in 255/40 R21 (front) and 275/35 R21 (rear). I realize this will raise the front end by ~4mm. Has anyone driven these side-by-side with Pilot Sport 4? Seems like every year the summer tires get quieter and the all-season tires get a little grippier.

Any other quiet options I should be considering for the LC500 21" wheels?

295/35/21 tires are not recommended for the stock 21" 9½" wheels. 255/40/21 is fine for the front 8½" wheel.

As Lou knows, I am going with the pilot 4 All seasons not the 4S'summer. (both great tires) I'm looking to get more miles with the all seasons while RF's get terrible miles. But, I too will also go with the 255 40 21 F 275 35 21 Rear. Will work fine as stated above.

Are you talking about Michelin summers (PS4S) or the all-seasons?

I'll be interested in hearing your impressions after you make the swap!
