Default Homemade Spoiler Mod

I saw this mod on Steven's Garage via Youtube and figured I'd try it out to see what it looks like in person. It's basically (4) 2-inch-long hollow spacers with long screws attached to the active wing. The only negative is that you can't retract the wing into the body anymore. The guy on Youtube used metal finished ones and I purchased black aluminum spacers which I find more appealing.

There's a ring of black spongey like material surrounding the black spacers that you can clearly see in the pics below. I can't see that material holding up to the elements. It's held on by some type of adhesive so I can just rip it off if I choose too, but I might remove the spacers and make everything OEM again in the future. Do you guys have any ideas as to what I could purchase in the future to replace that spongey material?

Looks great! This is such a simple and inexpensive way to get more of the GT style wing look by giving the stock active wing some actual height. I really considered doing this before I bought mine but I didn't love the way the trunk lid has that kind of "empty" or "unfinished" look with the wing in its highest position. That's what led me to the carbon addict wing which gives me the height while retaining the finished panel below. That said, it still looks good and enhances the street look of the car overall.

The foam you're talking about i think is really just there for sound insulation when the wing closes into the trunk lid recess. To me it looks like any kind of open cell foam insulation type material, something like this https://a.co/d/8uDiaUx

It literally cost me about $25. I'm kind of up in the air if I want to get a wing similar to yours, so I figured this is a happy medium for now to see if I like the look or not. For now I'm pretty happy with it, but I do like the sleek look of having no wing at all sometimes. The OEM active wing is great, but I dislike how little it rises and the drastic angle it has. Looks a little odd to me.

We have a member that just posted pictures of his car in the wheel thread. I noticed he has a cover on the trunk lid.

It looks like he bought a spare wing and drilled into it to attach those spacers that are attached to the second wing. Interesting. Maybe he'll chime in as to what the hell is going on with that setup.

That looks like the Lexon wing. I like that it has the fixed lower panel so that the active aero only changes wing angle, but I don't like the shape and how it doesn't sit flush. Lexon wing

My #1 choice was the VARIS wing which does both things mentioned above, retains the flat panel, adjusts only wing angle with active aero, and sits properly flush, but they has a 12mo lead time and I wasn't willing to wait. VARIS wing

I did the same mod awhile back after watching Steven's post. After awhile, I had to paint mine gold to match the calipers since they were rusting.

Few questions:

1) Did you remove that foam stuff that I pointed out in my pics? Leaving it on for now in case I decide to revert back, but I'm wondering where I can get more if it starts deteriorating.
2) Did you end up using flat spacers on each end of the M6 bolts? I did but I'm not sure if flat spacers are necessary for the upper part that attaches to the wing. You can see them in one of my pics.

The foam is still in place on my car. I did not add any washers to the spacers.

How does the wing go up and down? What is the mechanism?

See red circles in image below. These are the factory active aero risers. When actuated, these will move down into the trunk lid to recess the spoiler back to flush (when factory - with mentioned mod the spoiler will no longer sit flush or "closed" when in the lower position).
It can be actuated automatically by speed (up at 52mph and down at 25mph) or by switch on the center console.

Yes, but are they mechanical? Hydraulic? I was trying to understand what makes them go up.

Ah sorry. As far as I can tell it's mechanical. There is a motor assembly in there, part 85760C
