Temporary VIN Availability
My coupe went into build on Feb 29th and my dealer has not yet received a temporary VIN for the car. How long does it usually take or is it hit and miss on whether you get a temporary VIN or not? I would like to have it so that I could track its progress toward delivery. The dealer contacted the rep a week ago but still nothing.

What color? What dealership are you taking delivery at? I see 4 LC coupes on the allocation sheet for dealerships in Alabama:

I have read 3 new posts today from people who ordered a 2024 LC and are expecting delivery soon. I attempted to order an LC back in September from my local Lexus dealer and was told this was not possible as dealers take what Lexus sends them. When I questioned this I was told that dealers trade among themselves to get the car for a customer. Well it is mid-March and still no LC.

For all of Lexus' other vehicle offerings, Lexus HQ decides how many in what specs to build then allocates those to the dealerships based on a bunch of factors. This is the process that your salesperson is telling you about. However, the LC's "bespoke" process allows you to order almost exactly the car you want. The custom order process has a few restrictions but you can otherwise make the car pretty specific to you.
You need to find another Lexus dealer. Or talk to the sales manager at your local dealership. Keep talking to new people and asking them about a "bespoke LC" until you find somebody who knows what you're talking about.

It really depends on your sales rep and inventory manager. Both tag-teamed to keep me updated with my build. This was the timeline for mine about a little more than a year ago.
End of October 2022 - Sales rep emailed me saying my "order was approved and will be going into production in a month of 2."
Mid December 2022 - Sales rep emailed me a PDF with the specs of my LC500 (it had VIN number on it).
I received a follow-up email in a week saying "Just updating regarding your LC 500. Your vehicle has departed Japan on December 19th."
End of January 2023 - Sales rep emailed me saying they expect the vehicle at the dealership at the end of the month/first week of February.
I picked up the vehicle first week of February 2023.

Thanks to jbuffett, Barncobob and silvernite for your replies. It sounds from your replies that you all ordered Bespoke models? My inquiry was regarding a
"non-Bespoke" order that I wanted to place. Pretty bizarre system to sell cars. Things certainly have changed since I bought my 2013 GS 350, told them what I wanted, 48 hours later I was driving it home. Thanks again.

Mine is non-bespoke. MY23: Flare Yellow, Carmel Toasted interior, HUD, Mark Levinson, Dynamic Handling Package. I wanted Rear Wheel Steer and at the time of Bespoke ordering my sales rep could not confirm if you can do a Bespoke build with Rear Wheel Steer so we put in a regular build with the specs I wanted instead.

A production system based on the philosophy of achieving the complete elimination of all waste in pursuit of the most efficient methods.Toyota Motor Corporation's vehicle production system is a way of making things that is sometimes referred to as a "lean manufacturing system," or a "Just-in-Time (JIT) system," and has come to be well known and studied worldwide.
