My wife and I put down a deposit for a 350h Premium in the beginning of March and we’re assigned an allocation during the week of July 4th for an estimated build date of August 8th, our dealer said it was built on August 12th but they don’t have any further information than that. This is the VIN 2T2GKCEZ6NC28A442. Thank you for any assistance that you can provide.

Sounds fishy. IIRC, a letter in the last six digits is the give away for a temporary VIN. If it was built, I would think they would have an actual VIN.
Regardless, ours was built in Japan some time before Aug 4 and should make it to the dealer this week. I'm no cartographer or logistics expert; but, I'm pretty sure you should be able to get a car from ~Toronto to Boston a little faster than from Fukuoka to Houston.

I have a 350h on order with VIN supplied with an H854 as last 4 digits. So that means I have a temporary vin? What is the purpose of a temporary VIN? thanks.

Toyota assigns each car a temporary VIN to track the pending vehicle earlier in the production process when the actual date is not yet confirmed. It is used to look up/track the vehicle. VINs are assigned later in the production cycle, I believe once the production date is confirmed. I can't remember how far ahead of actual production date that happens.
No functional difference between the two for purposes of tracking or searching, the actual VIN just doesn't exist till later in the process and the farther ahead from production date you are, the risk of date change is greater. I believe you can even pull up the vehicle in Toyota's systems with the temp VIN even after the full VIN is assigned, but you want to get the actual VIN from your dealer to confirm production has been scheduled.

To my knowledge, the final vin does not get assigned until AFTER the car is built. I believe it is a matter of legality because if for some reason that car should not be built, had a final vin been assigned it could technically be used to spoof a stolen car that had a different vin. When the car is built the temp VIN dies completely; it cannot be used to look up anything. It's usually a good sign that your car is built and you should reach out to the dealer to get the final vin.

Sounds reasonable and my memory on this is definitely dimming.....although I'm fairly certain you used to be able to type in the temp vin and you'd get back the new record showing the final VIN after it was assigned. It was replaced in the record, but you still needed to be able to pull up the vehicle and if you didn't know the new VIN yet, you'd use the temp. Maybe there was a temporary translation period. Toyota has also switched or modified systems over time so things may have changed.
In any case, calling your dealer and asking (and having a responsive SA) occasionally should get you all the info you need.
A sales associate or sales manager who knows what he or she is doing can find their way to this “inventory management” corner of Lexus’ website and track your vehicle from the order stage, through production, through transit and right to the dealership’s front door.
Heard from my dealer this morning that our NX has been built and they provided the permanent VIN#, now hopefully will not be too much longer before delivery.
My SA informed me my NX350h has been built and is on a train from Canada to Jacksonville, FL. Now however we have the hurricane to deal with. I hope they protect it!
So much for the slow down of production all we heard about.
Mine was built in Canada on the 22nd. I noticed it was listed on my dealership's website on the 25th, and my SA confirmed via text that it was my exact car (great to have the permanent VIN). Not sure how long to expect it to be shipped to Houston, but my SA indicated he thinks it'll be end of October at the earliest. Hoping it's sooner than that.
I can just say,
I believe ours arrived at Long Beach on Aug 25th.
Shortly after that it was scheduled to arrive Sept 10-15.
But, then it was in Tulsa on Sept 13.
May have arrived at distribution in Dallas on Sept 16.
Was then scheduled for Sept 16-24.
Sat in Dallas until Oct 7.
Delivered in Houston on Oct 7.
They said there was a strike/ couldn't find drivers. They had 8 trucks on Sept 30... (2 while I was there).
They were thinking ours was just the 2nd or 3rd 450 in Houston. Where are you?
Unfortunately, I had a 12V problem a few days after delivery... perhaps due to the port installed rear puddle lamp. (Someone else had that problem.) They asked me if I knew that the 12V battery had already been replaced?
Something ain't right. You're dealer should be able to tell you where it is.

Another Houston person here waiting as well. We ordered a white 450h+ F-Sport with red interior for my wife mid-June so we haven’t been waiting as long as all of you, but the waiting definitely takes some patience. What dealership did you order yours from?

We ordered from West Side (though we live in The Woodlands) as it seemed like the largest volume dealer. (That place is HUGE!! The lot is not that big; but, the building is cavernous!)
You could be waiting ages for a specific color combo. We said we were okay with any color and Cadmium Orange F was coming in first; so, we agreed to it in hopes of getting the full tax credit. I already feel a little self conscious about getting a Lexus... a flashy orange one would have probably been my last choice. It's an attractive color... hopefully it doesn't attract the attention of wheel and converter thieves.
