Question Question for those who ordered new

I placed an order a week ago for a new 2012 IS F and am curious about the process.

How long from the order date did the car actually arrive at the dealer?
Did you get any sort of confirmation document of the order?
Does the dealer notify you that the car is being built?
Prior to the car arriving at port, can the dealer provide any ETA?

Any info is greatly appreciated.

Yes they gave me an eta to the port and also an eta to the dealership. Took mine about two months to get. I was lucky because one was in process already in Japan getting built to the color and options I wanted.

They were stating 3-4 months. However...your dealer should be able to contact the ship and tag a car. If you want a specific color, non-loaded F, etc., you may be looking at 3-4 months. My dealer tagged the car on way to the US. It took around 2-3 weeks before it was in my garage.

Did you get any sort of confirmation document of the order?
I just paid the downpayment and received the normal dealer paper, i.e., balance due.

Does the dealer notify you that the car is being built?
Can't answer this one as I snagged one from the ship.

Prior to the car arriving at port, can the dealer provide any ETA?
They can tell you when it will be in port. The rest is up to the union, weather, etc. I would expect to wait an additional 7-10 days before it is at the dealer.

Hope this helps.

I'm a bit surprised your salesman didn't explain it to you. I've now placed two orders, so this is just a bit of detail from my experiences (others will vary, I'm sure).

How long from the order date did the car actually arrive at the dealer?
I live on the east coast (MD) and it took about four months to arrive. They place the order as part of their normal inventory, so it's also a matter of when you place your order. It can certainly take less time than this, but it partially depends on these two factors (location and time of order).

Did you get any sort of confirmation document of the order?
Yep, and while it's good to be patient, you can certainly follow up with the salesman to verify that the factory received your order; this part doesn't take any great length of time, as it has been explained to me. When I ordered my 350, my salesman was pretty thorough and verified that the car was being built within short time. With my F, one dealer played around and wasted both my and their time, because they dropped the ball, here.

Does the dealer notify you that the car is being built?
As with the above, a good one will. The first one I worked with also confirmed my list of options and such.

Prior to the car arriving at port, can the dealer provide any ETA?
Yes, mine did this. I don't recall where exactly the car was, but I was given a call when it reached a certain point with an ETA on when it would reach the dealer for pickup.

Congrats on the order and I hope all goes well. Patience is your friend here.

Thanks so much for all the great info. I called the dealer and they were kind enough to provide the order documents. Interesting how it shows that they're exchanging this car for a CT 200H.

Here are my specs, for those experts out there who will know exactly what I'm getting:
Exterior: 08U1
Interior: 20

Factory Accessories [LP NL OS WO]

Yeup sounds like they gave up a CT allocation @ the factory, to put in your IS-F special order..

So you got yourself a 2012 IS-F (USE20)
  • Ultrasonic Blue Mica
  • Alpine/Black Interior
  • Two-Tone Leather Surfaced
  • Mark Levinson Sound System w/Nav
  • Moon Roof Delete
  • Intuitive Park Assist

I don't think i missed anything.. !?

Congrats..

Nope, you didn't miss a thing. I will have to try something a bit more challenging next time. Based on your knowledge, Toyota should be flying you out to Fuji to help them with the next IS F.
