Thanks for the info! How much does that cam gear TSIB usually run? Ive had that knocking noise happen a couple times now.

Only recalls are free outside of warranty.

(and even if you were in warranty having aftermarket suspension parts has no relation to having a warranty (TSIB) engine repair done).

So is it really a 1200 dollar fix for this?

I had this same issue about two months after owning my 2007 Lexus IS350 (purchased new).

I brought it up several times to DCH Lexus of Oxnard and each time it was the same story.."Unable to duplicate"

They weren't able to duplicate until I was 1000 miles past the warranty. Then all of a sudden they could and of course, I would have to pay for the fix.

It is if you know what you are doing. The parts is listed in one of the post. The engine knock is not absolutely necessary to perform. It can be annoying but it is not like it happens every time you start your car. Just add a exhaust and intake and you can barely even hear it knock. But I did have mine fixed with the recall.

Default Still going strong

Hi guys,
I posted some of the original comments on this issue back in 2008 when my IS250 was the first IS250 in the UK to be rectified (The Reading dealer had my car for a couple of weeks while they recorded every stage of the dismantle and rebuild as apparently my engine was slightly different to those in the American tech bulletin)

My last post was in July 2008 and I can still report that I have not had a recurrence of the knocking and I've just surpassed my 50k service.

Good luck all.

Nobody with an 09 IS350 have this problem? Mine does it from time to time but its annoying nonetheless.. I don't want to bring it to the dealer since they probably "can't duplicate the problem" because it does it rarely and randomly.. The TSIB doesn't even cover the 09's...

It doesn't matter if the the '09 is on the list or not, your best bet is still the dealer, unless you want to purchase the cam gears and do it yourself.
