Engine cranking/startup noise (merged threads)
Assuming it's a 350 he probably means the valve spring recall...I'd guess there's enough overlap on the labor they figure they can do both at the same time (and probably still bill Lexus for both
)
)
I'm getting mine done for both at the same time. Cam shaft for cold start noise and spring valve. Old boy...it's going to be a big one. A couple of days with loaner. Most dealers don't have the parts for spring valve recall.
I remember him telling me that there is going to be a recall for is250 involving something with the cam gears and/or spring valve but, he made it sound like it was a maybe kind of deal. I have the rattle noise documented and on the papers they put "OK to drive". So if anything does happen to my car that's related to the cold start rattle, I can always point to the papers.
I just called my dealer and service told me that they can take a look at the car but it'll cost $57 per half hour. WTF? Isnt the engine crank/rattle part of the power train warranty as stated in the lexus tsib?
Yeah, I believe anything under the TSIB is performed free of charge as long as you're still under warranty.

Well guys, I got a call from the dealer saying the parts are in. I'll be getting the redesign cam gears done. The SA told me it would take a total of 2 days so, I'll give an opinion on how everything feels after it's done.
I brought my car in this morning and my SA has confusion written all over his face. I tell him about the call I got to bring my car in and he tells me that I shouldn't have gotten that call. He then tells me they were still waiting on an actual service campaign to come out for my car before they replace anything but, they gave me a loaner and kept my car anyways?! I'm really confused about the situation?! If they are waiting on a service campaign; why would they keep my car?

I want to gather some information concerning the "HOT" timinig chain rattle condition,...NOT the cold:
What year is your car and did you have the floor mat recall done with the brake interlock ecu flash?

Well, I heard the dreaded rattle during start-up when I started my car after work when it had been sitting in the parking lot all day. Even though I heard the rattle, it was more quiet and not as long in duration as some of the other sound rattle clips people have posted up here.
I have an '06 IS250 with 68K miles, so I am still barely under warranty.
So, my question:
Does the Lexus dealer need to hear the rattle in-person while they start the car to do the TSIB; or will they do the TSB on the car if I record the start-up and rattle with my cell phone and play it for them off my phone - will they take that as good as "hearing it in person"?
Also, did you guys just call the Lexus dealer and tell them you are having an issue that is covered under a TSB and would like to bring the car in for inspection of the problem? I assume they give you a loaner if I need to leave the car there, for say a week, so they can hear the rattle?
Thanks for the help.

Took about a day and a half to get everyone replaced. I have a picture down below of what was done. Good luck and let us know if you're successful.
