No way i can afford that right now.. whats everyone that is out of warranty doing about this? its not something you can do yourself is it?
It is if you know what you are doing. The parts is listed in one of the post. The engine knock is not absolutely necessary to perform. It can be annoying but it is not like it happens every time you start your car. Just add a exhaust and intake and you can barely even hear it knock. But I did have mine fixed with the recall.
Hi guys,
I posted some of the original comments on this issue back in 2008 when my IS250 was the first IS250 in the UK to be rectified (The Reading dealer had my car for a couple of weeks while they recorded every stage of the dismantle and rebuild as apparently my engine was slightly different to those in the American tech bulletin)
My last post was in July 2008 and I can still report that I have not had a recurrence of the knocking and I've just surpassed my 50k service.
Nobody with an 09 IS350 have this problem? Mine does it from time to time but its annoying nonetheless.. I don't want to bring it to the dealer since they probably "can't duplicate the problem" because it does it rarely and randomly.. The TSIB doesn't even cover the 09's...
It doesn't matter if the the '09 is on the list or not, your best bet is still the dealer, unless you want to purchase the cam gears and do it yourself.
I have the same rattle sound when start up in the morning but im out of warranty.. what kind of oil get i used and how much atleast to minimizes to sound or how can I fix the problem
I had the same issue several months ago, but dealer was able to duplicate the sound, so I had the tsib done. I haven't heard the rattle since **fingers crossed **

I am new to the forum. I have a 07 IS250 AWD and lately it has been making some wierd noises when i start the car. The sound is more like a hard ticking, rattling and scratching noise. It has been doing this for awhile now and the dealer has not been able to find anything wrong and has not been able to reproduce it.
Do anyone of you have this problem or is it normal? I am thinking it may be the fuel rail recall that was replace or something close to it.
Welcome to the club, and welcome to the engine startup crank noise club too.
Check out this thread. This is a well documented case and if you are out of warranty it looks like it'll be about a $2000+ repair. Like me i am out of warranty so im not even going to try to talk to the dealership to have it fixed. Apparently it doesnt really harm your engine so i've read and there are ways to "mask" the problem by adding more oil or changing the oil weight you use. The problem i believe has something to do with the oil making it to the top of the crankshaft. dont quote me on that. Someone can correct me if im wrong. But yeah, heres the thread they talk about it. https://www.clublexus.com/forums/is-...d-threads.html

sorry i was busy with work and other stuff. I have a total of 63k miles on the car now. Just did a oil change.
Do you VIN# have to be on the TSIB inorder for them to perform the task?
