Engine cranking/startup noise (merged threads)
Well, I heard the dreaded rattle during start-up when I started my car after work when it had been sitting in the parking lot all day. Even though I heard the rattle, it was more quiet and not as long in duration as some of the other sound rattle clips people have posted up here.
I have an '06 IS250 with 68K miles, so I am still barely under warranty.
So, my question:
Does the Lexus dealer need to hear the rattle in-person while they start the car to do the TSIB; or will they do the TSB on the car if I record the start-up and rattle with my cell phone and play it for them off my phone - will they take that as good as "hearing it in person"?
Also, did you guys just call the Lexus dealer and tell them you are having an issue that is covered under a TSB and would like to bring the car in for inspection of the problem? I assume they give you a loaner if I need to leave the car there, for say a week, so they can hear the rattle?
Thanks for the help.

anyone know how much this would cost if my car is out of the powertrain warranty? I have around 87k on my 06 is250 and have had this problem for awhile. I did not know that there was a TSIB for this until now and it is exactly the same as the soundclip that is posted earlier in the thread. Any help would be great!
My car has doing it just about every time lately when it has been sitting in the non-covered parking lot at my work when parked on an up-slope for 8+ hours in +100 degree heat; if I park on the down-slope during work as well it does it maybe once a week. If it isn't hot as hell outside and parked directly in the sun, I haven't had it happen in that situation yet.
Like others, I'm deciding if it is even worth it to take it to Lexus to have the TSIB done; knowing they will be completely ripping my engine down to put a new part in that will start doing the same start-rattle in another ~10-15K miles.
The only other issue is that my car has 69.2K miles on it now, so I'm going to hit the out-of-warranty very soon.
Has anyone had the TSIB done in warranty, and then the car goes out of warranty and the rattle starts again when the car is out of warranty? Will they honor their repair to fix it again for free, considering the TSIB fix obviously didn't fix the problem the first time? Does anyone think they would warranty the repair again? I hope that makes sense.
Thoughts?

Had this TSB done last week. I will post the invoice later. They couldn't duplicate the noise on two previous trips to the dealer. This time I gave them a dvd with 5 startup noise QT videos from the Canon powershot. The wife shot from the drivers seat showing the odometer. We dropped it off on Friday morning and it was done Monday afternoon. If it starts making the noise again we will trade it in/sell it. We got a loaner ES350 for the weekend.
just got his tsib done and i feel like the car takes longer to start. seems like there is a delay when i start the car know. For instance i would press the button and the car would start right away.. know it seems like the car has to think then the engine will turn on after half a second. Any one else have this observation after having the tsib done?
I just had mine fixed under warrenty about 5k ago...last week I didn't drive my car and when I started it this week, I thought I heard it again...I really hope they figure this out or these cars won't be worth $3k in another year.
Lexus NEEDs to fix this.
