The ID number presents itself if you drop the pressure 5 psi or more rapidly. If you have a reader, you'll get the ID number without having to remove the tire.

And yes, Toyota can do this easily too. Techstream is not locked to a brand. I can connect to anything Lexus, Toyota, or Scion and get full access.

so it looks like one of the brand new tpms sensors i got is messed up. according to techstream there's a problem with the car reading sensor id3 and according to my reader it is unable to read the sensor from my RL tire. i will try to get a new one and see what happens after

When i replaced mine, I put the wrong ID number for one of the wheels and had the light. I bought a new tpms and after taking it out, I noticed that I had a "0" where there should have been a "C". Also are these truly brand new tpms or are they used? Sometimes with new ones, you have to use a magnet thing to turn them on. IDK if toyota tpms are like that though.

quick update: i was having a hard time triggering the LR sensor so i replaced and had discount tire program them again but still didn't work. i grabbed my programming tool and did the programming again but did it twice this time, idrove for 10 mins but same result. 1st it was giving me two dtc's for sensors and after programming it i had a dtc error for main sensor. i parked the car without turning it off and switch to main sensor, then while looking at techstream i looked back and it had gone away

so far it looks like everything is working

If you can wait, Get a set of the Denso ones on eBay for around $135 and get Les Schwab to program them to the car as a "2nd" set for around $25. Thats what i do with my F when i switch wheels.

For what its worth I'm betting this thread isn't the norm. I bought an extra set of Denso sensors from Amazon for my new aftermarket wheels and had them programmed by Discount Tire (for free) with 0 issues. Took all of 5 minutes after pulling into their bay.

I bought five sensors from an Internet retailer for less than $100. I searched for them with the Pacific part number paxpmv107j. They came off junked cars. Zero issues getting them programmed and working.
