Default Touchscreen went out...

Hello fellow CL's,

The touch screen just died out suddenly on my 08 F without any warning. I went out of town for a couple of weeks and when I was driving her to work I realized i couldn't select any stations on the screen =(. I tried disconnecting the battery and even tried to play with the diagnostic menu (where you flip the lights on and off a few times). Brought it over to carmax since my electrical is covered for the extended warranty, $2000 for a new one. Hope it's covered, I read there was a cheaper fix and digitizer replacement fix when reading around the forums, but I figured i'd try to claim it first through the warranty. What is weird is that the GPS screen was the only screen that registered my touches... I haven't messed with anything on the car involving the sound system, but I was curious you think they'd give me a hard time if they noticed an aftermarket BT adaptor?

I'll keep you posted on how maxcare handles this. So far they replaced my OEM exhaust at no charge due to it being a bit kinked when I first purchased the car and I luckily haven't had any problems since...

This is literally what happened to mine when I got mine back from the airbag recall. I'm curious to see if a simple digitizer replacement is the solution or what it is to resolve it.

That is too coincidental that you said that... I JUST had my airbag recall handled as well, i didn't have time to play with the car afterwards cause I left for my trip. I was thinking maybe they loosened a harness or something with the connectors of the radio, but i'm not sure if they remove the whole dash to change the airbag.

I had the same thing happen -- had the carmax warranty as well. Took it to Lexus and it was covered completely -- replacement cost was around $1950 or so. I paid the $50 deductible and was good to go. Good luck, hopefully you will have the same result.

Try disconnecting the battery for a while then try again and see if it starts up. My screen would go blank and stay off, then the digitizer went out and i couldn't touch anything on the screen. I replaced the digitizer completely and everything started working perfect. I'm not sure if the digitizer issue caused the screen to go blank and stay off but it could be related.

I took mine back to the dealer and thats what they tried to say too. That it was merely a coincidence and that they didn't do anything that would affect it because the airbag recall they just went thru the 'glove box". Either way they didn't do anything for me and wanted $2500 to replace it. I'm going to live with future recalls because since the EFL recall to this I haven't had an positive experiences with the dealerships and end up leaving with more issues than I went in with.

Interesting. I have my EFL recall and didn't experience this. I did NOT do the airbag recall yet. Definitely interested in more results.

Took them a couple days to diagnose the issue, but yeah it looks like the entire unit is going to be replaced =/. Hopefully the replacement is a good one, going to have them take a look at the gauge cluster while they're at it since the base of one of my needles is going out as well.

had my gauge cluster lights repaired recently.. stealership will replace entire gauge cluster which will cost you more than $1500 if out of warranty.. i had mine repaired by tannin locally.. took the tech an hour..he had to replace the four soldered led bulb per needle...

If it is the digitizer it's a simple DIY fix. The new digitizer can be found on the big auction site for around $50-60. It will take about 90min, that is including time to pull the head unit out, disassemble, replace the digitizer, and re-install the head unit . Watch the YouTube video and you're golden. It's easier than wiring the 2011+ headlights IMO.

You were 100% on that gauge cluster, Carmax had to send the car to lexus and they changed out my entire cluster for a new one instead of just changing the needle. Seems a bit inefficient and they had my car for 2 weeks. Thanks for the suggestions on the digitizer as well, they ended up giving me a new navi unit as well, looks like the carman warranty paid off luckily.
