Default NAV update

Has anyone updated their NAV? I asked the dealer how much it was.

$240!!!

It's not a high priority, but there are some new roads around here. I'm running Waze in conjunction.

I looked on eBay but didn't see anything.

Has anyone looked for the update at a lower price?

You could probably pick up a copy (usually comes on a USB stick) from eBay and save a few bucks. The dealer normally charges about an hour of labor to do the update so your price sounds about right. Granted, if you do it once every 4-5 years it doesn't seem so bad. I wish our cars had the Android/Apple Auto built in, would be great to use Google Maps as my main navigation app and have it constantly updated.

I've done them in the past, but will never waste the time and effort to do another one. My phones are so much better it isn't even a fair comparison.

^^I agree with lobux. I actually updated my NAV DVD last year and it's horrible compared to my phone nav. I do admit, whenever where my phone signal is out of range, the indash NAV really helps.

Couldn't agree more!

Same thing here in the UK.

Bought the 2015 maps from Lexus, only to find half the new roads aren't mapped, and I can't ever pinpoint the destination I need!

Always revert to my trusty iPhone map app! Gets me to my actual destination EVERY time!

I'd spend the money on better things personally.

I updated my 08 with a 2014 DVD to fill in the 6 years gap but I still rely on my phone's GPS to verify the route is correct.

I updated my 09 last year with the disk system it's pretty easy to do and it had a lot of the new roads I was missing.

I found micro SD cards on ebay for $125, but I'm not sure about it. You would think more people would sell their old data after upgrading but I never see it.

I got mine updated the other day from my friend at lexus. Its outrageous and not worth it. If I didn't get it for free I wouldn't have done it. Use your phone

The price sounds about right. I think there's an update every year or so, correct me if I'm mistaken.

I could be wrong but I don't think you can DIY. I watched the tech that I know install it. You have to have a certain computer that attaches to the port in car. Or maybe it is just the cable. The program is on a usb drive.

Takes about an hour to update and get her all done.

Again its not worth the price. The usb drive alone is $140 with out the labor.

I did it on my 08. Bought the CD/DVD on Ebay. There are two holes under where you put in the CD for regular music, etc., you push small pins in them (I think I used paperclips) and it unlocks the front fascia. You pull it out, and there is another DVD slot in there. That is where the DVD style GPS disc goes...no idea for the USB ported ones.

Cheers,

DS

Edit: Hardly worth it though -- I still use WAZE as my primary driving application...couldn't tell you the last time I used the GPS in the car.

Use the Viastech i-Vic. It mirrors your phone to include maps and also serves as a dvd bypass. The touch screen function is also maintained. They have a special right now and they're always in the for sale section as well.
