Is nav update worth it?
Should I update the DVD nav maps in my '07 ES350? Can I order a DVD ($$?), and install it myself?
Will I be able to program it as a passenger, or should we just continue to use our cell phones for navigation, and save the money? Waze and/or Google have it down pat these days.

Although this is the RX subforum, I believe the nav's are the same for the similar model year. I wouldn't recommend it, mine sucks to even think about investing into it, so I stick with my iPhone.
Bought a $10 off ebay for my 2004, i think to the latest update for it which was 2016 and it has all the addresses and streets in my subdivision that are 2 years old, so worth a try. Not sure if still a disk drive though
It depends on personal preference and how much you need nav. The current disk is $170 from the dealer. I prefer using the onboard nav system simply because I don't like a bunch of stuff hanging off my dash. If you want to take a chance you can get a cheapo pirated disk off ebay for $10. If the label comes loose it'll muck things up but if it works it's a good deal. I have last years update and am unsure if I'll bother for another year or two.
I don't have a factory GPS in my RX330 but instead bought a $10 AC vent clip on retainer for my iPhone and use the GPS app on it.
At this point, the GPS and user capabilities of iPhones are so good that I don't see the point of ever using an in-car GPS again.

Same here, must have been some sort of liquidation overstock, apparently the 2015 version we purchased in 2016/ 2017 will be the last available version as there will be no more updates for the 2nd generation RXs in the future according to Lexus.

Wonder what the colored blocks are about, Lexus stops using them further up the chart.
Just an FYI but you can use a gen 5 disk in the gen 4 system. Just keep the gen 4 disk as the system will ask for it if your battery is disconnected. After the first re-boot just switch back to the gen 5 disk. Eventually someone will figure out how to put the data file from gen 5 onto a gen 4 disk.
