Default Trunk Release Button Deteriorating

I checked my trunk release button today and the rubber cover is deteriorating, getting mushy and gummy. This is the direct release on the actual trunk.

I have seen failure reports on other models about this, has anyone had the same failures on the IS F?
It looks like the entire switch needs replacing.

Can anyone confirm the correct part ID

SWITCH ASSY, BACK TRUNK

I thought pictures might help

That's disappointing to see.

Do you get your car oil sprayed? I have seen some door molding at the bottom of the doors get mushy and elongated because of the oil spray. Maybe something similar is happing to the trunk button.

Nope..never sprayed with anything.

It is just heat and time. It very common on other Lexus models.

My thoughts are, if you own a car like this, these things shouldn't be falling apart. Same issue some of us are having with our interiors melting and crumbling. Do you think Lexus would let thus happen to the lfa? I would guess and hope not.

The ISF is still like a Camaro ZL1. Its a company building a race car from a much cheaper platform. The extra 20k got you nothing other than performance. My LS 4460 makes the interior on the F look like a Chevy from 10 years ago.

This is the part number i found searching. It's not specific to ISF, but I figure all the IS trunks are the same. I'm not 100% though.

Thanks...I'll check it out!

I hate the fact that Sewell doesn't have their site anymore

Guys

The Search Function on this site is really very good. Sewell discounts are still available, if you know what to do:

Thanks Lou...but I was just talking about using their part database as a resourse for part ID numbers.

Agreed, times were simpler with Sewell. I even remember them having this button on the main product page, because i thought to myself "that's an odd product to feature". I guess it wasnt after all.
