I am wondering if all our ecu compensate and adjust to properly upgraded parts. Reason i ask? I remember a post here about a member adding a full JoeZ catback exhaust and no real gains. Is it possible that the earlier model ISF had such a restrictive ecu in which adding any potential mods would never adjust to it? I want to get sikky headers and maybe even nitrous but if the ecu in my ride doesn't compensate to it, that would be a waste of $$$. Someone please tell me our ecus are not lile that.

 

They 'learn'. There's no need to reset it but there is a breaking in period for it to compensate for the changes. I have sikky headers and I'm certain that the car gets faster the more track days I get under my belt.

 

^^How many miles does it usually take? I just hope mines is not like the former member who did his and gain basically nothing.

 

everytime i install new parts,i usually reset the ECU (by pulling a couple fuses for about 5-10mins.) when i feel its been too long i would install the fuses back and start the car....when my car would'nt start (it will crank once and not continue) this is a sign the ECU has been reset, the 2nd time i would start it,it will start....
you guys have similar experience about the 1st try would'nt start?

 

If your basic question is "will mods like sikky headers and nitrous make power on my earlier model ISF" the answer to that is an unequivocal yes. Mod away.

The JoeZ (and Borla, and any other cat back) exhaust will also make power on your earlier model ISF. The one guy who posted that he didn't make any power after his JoeZ installation must have had something else going on with his car, because those mods make power.

 

Sort of on topic, I had a custom made exhaust fitted to my 08 ISF last week. I've probably driven 300-400 miles since installation.

The exhaust itself is headers back with secondary cats removed.

When I was heading home last night, I put my foot down and car picked up as I would expect. Only thing I noticed was it held the gear after I lifted off the gas? seemed to take longer to change up from 5th to 8th?

Car was in auto mode with no use of the shifter/paddles.

Just wondering if anyone else finds this??

Car does seem genuinely quicker than it was originally, but the holding gears in normal mode is a new thing on me??

I have that experience right now. I believe our cars are still learning to our driving habits. Now that i feel much better, i will start to "mod away"

 

mine does that too if Im going up hill and was driving aggressive. Its like shes waiting for another go

Good exhaust, good headers, nitrous, call fig to turn. that is all.

 

That's normal. It's a drive by wire system. That first time you're trying to start it the ECU is in the process of calibrating the throttle position. On my STi it took about 10 seconds so I would turn the key on and wait before starting.

 

Doesn't have to be drive by wire. I've seen this on every Toyota I've worked on since my 1988 GTS Corolla. Scares the crap out of you the first time it happens, but it has been normal for Toyota for a very long time.
