Still trying to pinpoint exhaust smell with sikky headers. Do you guys who are running sikky headers and deleted secondary cats preferably joe z experience and exhaust smell in the trunk. And what about WOT with windows cracked.
If you are not running cats. you will get this smell. I have Sikky headers with deleted resonators and secondary cats.
Can you help me out with when you get the smell. Do you get the smell at WOT if your gunning it several times hard? Do you get exhaust in the trunk as well. What about when window are cracked an inch after gunning it are you getting the smell? I want to know before I re gasket my entire system.
All cars are different. My Lexus dealer installed Sikky on my friend's car and PPE on mine and we both run Joe Z exhaust and have no cats. His Sikky car barely had any smell at all even with nose right near exhaust. My PPE has light gas smell at idle and when sitting in traffic with windows down. The sheet i had left in my trunk has gas smell all over it but didn't when i only had Joe Z exhaust and no headers. If ur running no cats then ur prob 90% certain ur gonna have a gas smell no matter what u do. My friend's car is an anomally.

Thank you Mrd. Is a gas smell abnormal in the cabin of the car after ripping it hard ?
I know its a slightly different product but I have PPE headers and borla exhaust with no cats and never get any gas smell while driving at any speed. obviously at idle the smell from the exhaust is evident. Imo you should never have a gas/exhaust smell while moving. Sikky seems to be sub par when compared to PPE so maybe it is a crappy weld or something
@Dupshaw, no i don't have a gas smell in cabin after getting on it. Only time i notice a smell is windows down in drive thru line or idling in bumper to bumper traffic. Cabin of car never has a smell.
Do you think you have an exhaust leak from them not sealing properly against the cylinder head , I noticed the flange was not flat and the welds were sticking up and were very inconsistent some spots were higher some lower someone posted some pics of their brand new headers here just a few post below.
Someone also commented that it's done on purpose but I disagree if it was done on purpose they would all protrude at even height so they can seal properly . Having one weld raised more then the other will create a high spot and potentially exhaust will leak from the area where the other runner would have a lower spot .
Just curious if that's the case, I work in a machine shop with close tolerances and when I seen that I decided to not install them because I didn't want issues down the road and paying more money to take them out again $700 install the first time is plenty enough doing it again is the cost of the header. Doesn't make any money sense. A flange should be squared up to the head so it doesn't have any gaps . Just by looking at howmuch the raised weld protruded was about .02 thousand of an inch some area was almost flat with the flange now that's a big gap when you seal it against the gasket then the cylinder head.
I was really disappointed in the quality an craftsmanship of them. I had previous issues with turbo manifolds on boosted Acuras and just didn't want to deal with that **** again.
But if it was an exhaust leak you'd hear some sort of noise up front and the smell be coming from behind the fire wall and you'd get light headed

Well I only get it when I roll a window down and I am moving. Maybe it is because my car is burning rich. I get and exhaust smell in the trunk... But I have checked for leaks along the whole back section of the car. As well as in the trunk, spare tire well and trunk seal. No leaks or deterioration spotted.
I was just trying to get as many responses as possible on this smell. Before I waste another day at JE import getting it fixed. I do not want to sit and deal with a "thorough" exhaust leak check drive an hour and a half away and then go back for the same issue.
