Default Exhaust Question

Hey Guys,

I'm thinking of getting a set of PPE headers for my car(they do RHD version), as well as a performance exhaust.

We have managed to get a well respected exhaust fabricator over here to make a system for our cars, but no one has removed any of the cat's as yet.

If I do go for the PPE headers, would I be better off retaining the primary cats (PPE offer them on their website), or the secondary ones?

I appreciate the best performance solution would be to run the car with none at all, but I know that will fail our MOT test, making the car illegal to drive on the public road.

Any advice or guidance from you guys would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers.

When you remove the F's stock exhaust manifolds (headers) the primary cats go away because they are are part of the manifold assembly. The secondary cats are part of the stock exhaust system. When you install Headers and retain the stock exhaust you are running with the secondary cats only. If you run a third part exhaust, they don't come with cats, unless you go with the PPE system, they offer cats as an option. Many folks on this forum are modifying their aftermarket exhaust to include cats. Most, however, are not.

Now, if you run headers, in any case, you will need o2 simulators to simulate the signals from the before and after sensors from the primary cats.

PPE sells HiFlow cats to be mounted in the third party exhaust, and will be the only set after completion of installation.

BTW, you don't need to have a custom exhaust manufactured for your RHD ISF. The exhaust from a LFD ISF will fit just fine. LHD headers are different than RHD, but not the exhaust.

Thanks Lou.

The reason we use a UK based exhaust manufacturer is the shipping, import duty and tax make the US systems very pricey mate.

It's almost double the price you guys pay.

The UK system comes in around £850 or $1,500, but they don't remove the secondary cats (will be the first car to do it over here if I go ahead).

Just wondering if it would be easier to get the whole lot from PPE? At least that would be plug 'n' play in terms of all working together.

May drop them a line to see what they can do for me.

Thanks again for the pointers though Lou.
