Default Exhaust Mod Question

I came across this vid of a 2011 Starfire Pearl ISF with the following mods to a stock exhaust...
- stock resonator removed
- both mufflers removed
- straight pipes welded in
- rear cats still in place

Questions about these mods:
1) any HP gain?
2) would I pass inspection in NY?
3) would this cause any exhaust leaks or CELs in the future
4) is this anybody here on the forums? He's located in TX.

Removing the restrictive mufflers and resonator will yield gains for sure just not to sure how much. The funny thing is I'd do the opposite. Keep the mufflers and resonator and lose the cats. Without mufflers or a resonator that thing would be loud ***.

Here's my Muffler Delete thread

1) There are gonna be gains but nobody has dyno'd the car before and after this mod. I got rid of my mufflers and secondary cats, and you can tell its peppier.
2) If its a visual inspection then no. There gonna look for mufflers lol
3) No cells. The o2 bungs are up front by the header.
4)Don't know

Thanks for the input, I'm considering this, it sounds real unique. I'm not that concerned about HP gains but was just wondering. I wonder how much it would cost. DCoolBeans I saw in your thread it cost you ~$250? Does this include parts & labor? Thx

there will always be slight power gains if you remove stock mufflers/resonators/cat(s) but now the bottleneck will be the stock exhaust manifold. and prior to that, the stock intake. youre making more room for exhaust gases to ESCAPE, but youre not putting additional air INTO the system. so you really have to replace the whole system to see "substantial" gains, so that all the parts may work together

one of the other members on the forum got his muffler and resonator with a pipe welded in place of the resonator for only $60.

I removed both the mufflers and resonator on my car as well...All 4 cats are still in place though.

Vj it all depends on were you go for inspection remember in NY State dealerships, gas station, repair shops all do inspection and you go to small local gas station or repair shop as long as you don't sound like mac truck they will most likely do standard OBD II,tires and safety check brake lights , turn. signals,h head lights etc. If you bring it to dealer or large chain repair shops like Goodyear ,Sears or meinecke etc. they will do more thorough check of the vehicle this is not to say that one of these smaller shop won't do a good job just bring it to some place that you know see what they say
